Strange to think that Airbus A320s and 747-400s are now old enough to be broken up.

Here are a few pics I took from the military boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ. There is also a massive civilian storage facility nearby which I did not visit.

I have been involved in 6 aircraft part outs.

We generally zone out the aircraft and list all the high cost rotable components.

These are then removed and tagged as removed in serviceable/unserviceable condition.

some will be sent to repair shops for bench check and overhaul.

The remaining hulk is reduced to scrap with the nose sections usually going to collectors etc and door frames and doors going on for instructional use(cabin crew etc).
