That's sad - I've never ever been on one frown

(That said, despite making on average a couple of flights a month I've never been on a four engined jet and I've never flown anything "posher" than economy!)

First time I flew one was a flight from New York to Amsterdam in 2004 with my parents. My mum got thrown off the toilet whilst using it when we hit a patch of rough air.

Precious memories.

This just popped up on Twitter - shows the size difference.

I first flew in a 747 in 1973, and countless times since.

Back then children were made members of the 'Junior Jet Club' and we were given logbooks and badges. Trips to the flight deck were an expected part of the journey.

No, nor me although have always wanted to. Have also done a lot of flights but far more short haul than long.

I might seriously have to look at where I can go to just to get a flight. Anyone any suggestions for the most cost-effective vs interesting option?

Haven't flown on one in a while now but I used to fly on them regularly to Las Vegas on Virgin Atlantic, always nice to fly on them!

My only First Class flight was in the nose of a BA 747 a couple of years ago. My favourite seats are the window ones upstairs in Business Class. Plenty of space, loads of storage lockers, ample toilets, nice & quiet and no riff-raff wandering around spoiling the ambience.

I thought I was travelling on one on my way to Vegas at the end of January from Heathrow - at least I'm sure that was what I read when I was choosing my seat. I was excited because I've never flown a 747.

Now though, in the app it's just showing -- where it should show the aircraft. Really hope it's still the 747 as it may be the last chance I get to fly in one.

FlightRadar suggests that Lufthansa does a Frankfurt to Berlin service - https://twitter.com/flightradar24/status/925765595...

Only ever been on one twice; London to Newark and back again, with Virgin about 15 years ago, I remember sitting in the departure lounge in Newark waiting for the flight home as it arrived from the flight from London, I just thought "fk me that thing is massive, how the fk does it get in the air and stay there?!"

I had a mate from school who had the same thought. He was a BA747 co-pilot biggrin:

All BA flights Heathrow to Las Vegas in January are currently scheduled to be on a 747

Do air New Zealand still run them? I’ve been on a few of theirs in the recent past.

Not been on a 747 myself for a good while though, I always found I‎t interesting to look back at it when we were exiting the air bridge as they are huge up close.

Been on a few A380’s too, used to enjoy the Manchester to Dubai run on emirates, although that hasn’t happened for a few years as we rarely go there now.

the thing was massively over powered really.
I consider that 'adequately powered'.

sad to hear. came back from LV in one last week.

any drivers here able to tell me what's the speed over the hedge? i'm guessing something like 140kts??
Yep - as a rule of thumb, it's 140kts based on a 240 tonne landing weight (typical) - then +/- 1 knot for each 3 tonnes above or below 240 tonnes landing weight.

I went to Boston in 1986 and flew on my first BA 747 from Heathrow. My mum didn't like flying and spent all the flight drinking and smoking, I got a cockpit tour and loved it.

Even now I try to fly on 747's wherever possible. Happy memories of a great plane.

Only ever flown on a 747 twice. My only complaint is BAs beds are only 6' long with stuff at both ends, so at 6'2" I couldn't lie on my back hehe

The last one was retired earlier this year.

My only ever First class BA flight so far has been on a 747. Even managed to get Seat 1A. Best experience travel ever being able to see out the front of the plane. There's something so right about the look of the 747, and the A380 hasn't come close to matching it.
