The Aerobat is probably the only Cessna I have any hours in and that would be 30+ years ago.
Have they got round to having inverted systems on them yet?

Nope. It still conks out if you're upside down.

Uncannily familiar.....

I learned to fly on a 152 20 years or so ago - I was fortunate enough to be awarded an RAF flying scholarship through the CCF at school
Flying scholarship - 23 years ago - 150, 152 and 172

Sod marginal - I managed to blind myself in one eye shortly after leaving sixth form hehe

Apparently you need two eyes to fly a tonka which I think is bks.

I do regret that I (or actually, my parents, since I was still at school at the time) couldn't raise the cash required to do the other 10 hours required to qualify for a PPL frown
I did manage that though (and had enough cash spare to hit Nijmegan and pass my driving test the same year - worked bloody hard every weekend that year!)

Hi,

not flown one in a long time, but brings back very good memories.

First solo, Inverness in 1989 in G-BFLU. If anybody has a pic of said aircraft that would be great.

Rgds.

Down in Coventry, well at least it was until Coventry airport was closed. Now it's probably in Wellesborne.

You need some Yak/Pitts/Extra time.

Admitting that an Aerobat provided some of the best fun you've had in an aeroplane is in moped/fat bird territory.
fk me fella, nice selective quote. If you read what was written fully you will see it was an RAF scholarship I did at age 16, (similar to other posters in this thread it would seem) Learning to fly them with a decent bunch of similar minded guys, with fabulous potential flying skills and not a great deal of idea of their own mortality and often little common sense.
Hence, yes, it was some of the best fun flying I have done, as it was pretty much the first flying I had done. Most of us were not old enough to drive and we were let loose in the air in planes someone else was paying for. It was a truly fantastic summer, as I am sure anyone who has done similar will testify too.

The OP has started this thread as he has started to fly in one of these machines, it is what they are made for after all. I share his excitement over what is a classic fun trainer, which you can have a bit of a play in whilst being pretty forgiving. For many trainee pilots it will be the aircraft they can do their first official aeros in, and that means some will remember them fondly.
Then you show up being Billy Biggles Balls with arrogant txxser posts like that. FFS grow up.

Maybe there are more exciting things than Yaks and Pitts Specials about, maybe stuff even you aspire to fly? Thankfully my eyes and health were good enough to progress from a 152. But this thread is about Cessna 150s an aircraft quite a few of us no doubt cut our teeth on and had a lot of fun in. rolleyes

If everyone was as accomplished a pilot as you, you'd just be average. So perhaps embrace the fact that some people enjoy flying more basic machines, so you can feel good about yourself and make belittling comments on the internet?

Calm down dear. I happen to agree with Ed. A Cessna can never ever be described as fun. I have over 2000hrs in Cessna products and whilst the 150/2 isn't horrid to fly, it isn't exactly exciting.

I've had plenty of fun times in Cessnas, but that has naff all to do with the machine. I've also flown Pitts, Extra 300's and Yak52 and 18's. All of them are far more enjoyable machines than any Cessna.

Anyhoo, I thought Ed's comment was amusing, may I suggest that you chill out a bit and not be so overly sensitive. He wasn't having a pop, just being flippant.

Whooppe for you.

What was your first car or experience of driving? For many, it was some relative piece of crap like a rusty mini or a beaten up fiesta. Certainly not supercars, or trackday specials. But many people will refer to their first car as a fun car, because it gave them their first experience of driving, mobility etc. My first car compared to my current very modest car was pretty awful, slow, terrible brakes, uncomfortable. Did I have fun in it?.....hell yeh, loads of it. And PH place of full of people who will feel the same.

His comment was aimed at me, so if I choose to be offended by it, offended by it I will be, thanks.

Whoa..baby!

Is this a fat bird/moped thing? Don't be ashamed. We've all done it.

The fact remains that the Aerobat is a horrible shed of an aeroplane.

If you've had some fun in one, then bully for you. But I'd advise getting some professional help on the anger management front....and get your sorry grumpy arse into a decent airframe!

Uh huh. The first aircraft I ever flew was a Cessna, in fact most pilots probably started their careers in them. It's no reflection on anyone. Most of us had fun in them too, but that's to do with the fact we were doing it for fun and it was a new experience. Once you start working as a pilot, it all changes. I enjoy it, but it is very different from when I was a wide-eyed 18 year old with no experience and not enough brain power to be scared.

I also couldn't give a toss what you fly now or then, if you are interested in flying, then we'll get along. The machine you fly has naff all to do with anything.

You can of course get offended, but I think you're over-reacting massively to comment that was undoubtably meant in jest. It's an old joke, but Cessnas are the moped or Fiesta of the skies and as such they aren't exactly anything that is going to get the pulses racing of those of us who've been around aircraft for more than 5 minutes. You can have fun in them and I have, but now I just get bored to tears at the thought of having to get in one. They do nothing for me anymore. I've been spoilt by much more capable and interesting machines.

A Cessna doesn't change my heart rate. A Pitts or Extra does.

More arrogant comments.

Do they shoot at you in your biplane?

That changes your heart rate a bit.

I am sure a '150' would not get me above 75bpm nowadays, but that is not what my post was about and the arrogant comments are uneccessary.

Damn it, IforB, let him be....the Comedy Channel+1 is showing "Lee Evans Live In Scotland", and poor old S3fella is marginally more amusing than that. Not by much though.

You'll need a decent biological powder to get the coffee stains out of that shirt.

Just trying to help....
