I'm surprised you're even giving his post the dignity of a response Eric.

When you have done with the Savlon Eric pass it over here will you, please

More than one of my nerves touched too

Emirates start their A380 service from Manchester Airport on 1st September.
How bloody wonderful. The current service swamps Terminal 1 arrivals already.

I fly in and out of Dubai quite a bit and I actually try to stay clear of the A380, I've been on it a few times in both business and economy and for me it doesn't work on a couple of levels.
Airport gates etc aren't geared up for the traveller numbers, even Dubai which is prety new. It seems to take an age to get on and off the thing. Then when you get to passport control there is a huge backlog.
When you are in the air you can't get any peace (co won't run to one of the pods!), there is always a food service/ line for loo's/ announcements etc etc.
Give me the Boing 777-300 any day, leaves Dubai an hour after the A380 service but a lot less hassle

I work in the industrial park near hatton cross. Planes come overhead really low about every 2 mins. When the A380's come over it's unreal how much bigger they are than even a 747. Nosie is deafening aswell! Although i'm not sure why anyone in their right mind would make a special trip and pay to park to watch one take off? bit weird.
Like all the plane spotters in the field opposite hatton cross. Get a life FFS!
Why should people like you denigrate people who have a genuine enthusiasm for aircraft?

And I would suggest that the engines on an A380 are anything but deafening - especially when compared to a military jet or the engines on older generation airliners, such as the Conways of a VC-10 or the Speys on a Trident or 1-11.
Or even 747s and most other planes flying today - the A380 is an exceptionally quiet aircraft, both inside and out.

Really looking forward to the A380 arriving @ MAN, given the fantastic viewing points around the airport we should be able to grab some amazing pics/vids of the aircraft. I'm working on the day it arrives but I'll definitely pop into the Airport Pub soon to see it up close and personal! I imagine there'll be around 15,000 people there for the first visit! eek

Incidentally, it's going to look absolutely massive on the end of the tiny Pier B, should get a good view from the aviation viewing park too. Well done MAN for managing to get an A380 service so early in the aircraft's life though. yes

Well done for what? Surely Emirates will send A380s wherever they can fill them to, it's not some kind of a reward, or do you mean "well done" for being A380 capable or something?

Well it's a bit of both actually, we're not a massive airport by any stretch of the imagination yet the airport has seen some great improvements over the last few years. MAG have worked well with the Gulf carriers to increase hub traffic which has grown immensely (something BA couldn't make work), the dedicated premium lounges of Emirates and Etihad are further evidence of this.

MAG have reacted quickly in terms of infrastructure and the airport has now achieved Code F status........which in turn will see us becoming one of the first airports to see regular A380 & B747-8 (Cathay Pacific Cargo) services. smile

Dear Mr Blue...

You know that recorded voice that keeps saying...

No smoking is allowed in this area

Please find the illiterate twerp who wrote the script...

And whip him several times..

Thank you...smile

And why is it impossible to find a space in T1 and T2 short stay parks these last couple of years..?

I'm pretty well ----> irked

No, on second thoughts, I'm more like ----> furious

Edit..

I hope those road works outside T3 are not installing pay hoppers to charge for dropping off, like your bandit colleagues have done at East Midlands...

Hope PIA don't get the 380 and send it to Manch else the folks at the end of the runway may well end up bricking it laugh
Those PIA pilots certainly like to use the full length of the runway!!

I'm going to try and get some overhead shots from Bruntwood Park, about 1.5 track miles out, and then cycle over to the southside.

I work in Cheadle right on the flight path in, I hope the wind is in the right direction as it will come right over us if it is!

I fear you'll not get near that if predicted numbers turn up. It's always packed to bursting at the weekend when the weather's nice. And they charge £3 to park...bandits smile

Hi,

the taxyways are pretty narrow so with such a wide track it will require caution i think. The aircraft has fairly low approach speeds, certainly lower than the B773.

Its the wing span that is so impressive, 260 ft i think.

I flew on an Emirates A380 from Dubai to LHR last September, in cattle class unfortunately.

True enough it's a huuuuuuuuuuuuge aircraft, but the Emirates trolley dollies were "to posh to clean the toilets", so most of the toilets were out of order when we still had ~3hours to LHR. Not good.

Business or First Class must be the way to go - even better if someone else is paying for it too.

Hi,

it does not come down to cleaning the toilets. It may well have been that the toilet servicing had not been done correctly and the aircraft departed with the waste tank almost full.

I use the 380 whenever possible. It is the quietest aircraft I have flown in (apart from a glider!).

If you use the IRIS system at LHR and the E-Gate at DXB along with an Emirates Gold card (or fly Business/1st) for lounge access at both ends there is no queueing, no waiting and no hassle.

You are me AICM5P!!!

I'm back on the BA 737 direct from Angola next month, I have a feeling it may be a bit of a comedown after the 380... even though it always seemed find when I used to use it!
