Quick visit to Tarragona to check up on SY Black Pearl. Here alongside 124m (408.14ft) custom motor yacht motor yacht 'Katara'. Crewed by up to 95 crew when the owner and full complement of 34 guests are onboard.

From my apartment I can see two superyachts; they have been anchored of the Pacific side of Panama for a few days now.

This one:

and this one:

£60m? Not sure. Can we add them together?

Agreed, it sort of reflects the 'trawler look', e.g. superstructure well forward.

A clear example of this is Motor Yacht 'Icon', which was originally a 'tubby' looking thing, it was then extended at the rear by about 20ft in 2014 and now looks so much better.

That second photo looks awful: it looks like the thing had to brake hard and everything above deck slid forward. The first picture looks much better with much better proportions.

I was 'the man' in my RIB. smile

I can't quite imagine the lifestyle (or funds) that these owners have.

Lol then for lifestyle I would suggest you need to imagine a little harder!

Funds I tend to agree with! biggrin. Quite scarey to think even the biggest euromillions win would not even buy you the boat. Then you would have to keep Heidi Klum happy.

The fuel bill for even the smallest thread qualifying motor yacht in this thread for a days travelling is going to be over £25k. Quite possible to buy a brand new 50' yacht for a single week's running costs of a (small) super yacht when you factor in crew and mooring as well.

I know one of the crew on Dilbar.

Captain and the officers are all ex senior Royal Navy and there are also quite a few Russian and South African ex special forces amongst the crew.

All of the crew have iphones and ipads and the standard plastic charging cradles in their quarters have all been replaced with gold plated versions so the details aren't just in the guest areas.

He said that the main salon has an absolutely massive custom made carpet that cost a 6 figure sum and as soon as it was fitted 2 artisans from the middle east arrived and spent 8 weeks cutting a hugely intricate design into it by hand with scissors.

My friend had a very well paid job on the Queen Mary and was poached fro Dilbar on double the salary.

Googling Dilbar and found that Azzam and Eclipse are both listed for charter but are not actually available to be chartered. Owners list them for charter to avoid property tax... I assume its based on a %, just think of the saving!! (Not that they're bothered I'm sure, I just found it interesting)

I love that and the fact that someone had the balls to build it. Certainly not going to mistake it for any other boat.

True, but at that distance angle, you might mistake it for a running shoe on the edge of your balcony.

It has won an award for "sail assisted motor yacht", seemingly by virtue of being the only entrant:

Pink sail notwithstanding, I think I'd rather have the one on page 18.
