We used to have a railway line running through the streets of Farnborough.

Headed by a small saddle tank 0-4-0 loco called 'Invincible' it took coal from the main line to the Royal Aircraft Establishment until they switched to fuel oil.
There's a small piece of the track still at the junction of Elm Grove Road and Union Street... https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.295379,-0.758203... ...and I have a funny feeling the line followed what is now Invincible Road and across to the airfield site about where Costco now is.

I have to confess that I'm not old enough to have seen the train run in the streets of Farnborough with the man with the red flag stopping traffic. I'm just aware of it from taking an interest in local history.

1369 which worked on the Weymouth harbour branch is on the South Devon Railway and I saw her there last year.

Now we know what pwig stands for!
Apparently there was a colour light signal protecting a level crossing, I think the one near B&Q, which was still shining down the line until quite recently even though there hadn't been a train for years!
It's still lit up, annoys me every time I go past it!Apparently there was a colour light signal protecting a level crossing, I think the one near B&Q, which was still shining down the line until quite recently even though there hadn't been a train for years!
