Rumours today that Heathrow & Gatwick will actually close -so plenty of space.
If there is one thing that I enjoy, and that is a good rumour,
It`s beginning to seem more and more likely. DXB and DWC close in 24hrs or so for 2 weeks renewable.

Just seen a Virgin A330 flying up to Doncaster airport under a training flight code so would assume that is off to be parked there.

Virgin Atlantic A340 just arrived at Bournemouth, don’t usually see any big birds down here as it’s mostly Ryanair and Tui 737’s. Also just noticed a BA 320 circling on its way down.

Looks like the Virgin A340s are moving from Prestwick to Bournemouth. Seems an odd move, would have thought they'd have been well out the way at Prestwick, unless they didn't fancy them getting the sea air.

Edit - or is there a scrappy in Bournemouth?

The other A340 just coming in now, I’m 6 miles out on the flight path so am sitting in the garden with a beer watching them come in....

I think traditionally they call them "Care Homes". Lots of them.

Ah, so according to FR24 twitter the Virgin A340s have gone to Bournemouth for retiring rather than storage during the CV doom?!

I went to a Rolling Road day years and years ago down at a place on the outskirts of Bournemouth airport, was definitely a lot of old planes there that I assume were in the process of being decommissioned by the looks of it. There was an entire Ryanair 737 fuselage just dumped the other side of the fence from where we were having the cars tested

Yep, I think they only have about 3 or 4 of them left.

As others have said, its rather appropriate they are sending them to Hurn for retirement laugh

I was told airlines typically want the planes flying regularly, even now to keep them in readiness and also the pilots need to keep their hours up, does that sound accurate ?

How long can you park a 'commercial jet' for until it needs maintenance to be used again?
They will go onto a care and maintenance programme...engineering will continue to look after them.

Typically tyre pressures and roll the aircraft a bit to prevent flatspots.
Power up and cycle systems, lubricate items to prevent things corroding.
Change any rotable components that expire on calendar rather than hours flown.

Cargo flights will still operate from both airports I think.
