English Electric Lightning - what performance!
Avro Vulcan - just looks so right, and performed when asked...

Not half as annoying as posting a picture of what is obviously a land-based aircraft and claiming it as the best carrier-based aircraft, or (completely unforgiveable) posting a picture of a Zero Type 52 and claiming it as the best fighter in the early part of the war. rolleyes

Everyone knows that the Type 52 came out late in the war as an (inadequaate) response to the Hellcats and Corsairs. The Zero pictured was built around October 1943, from the markings I would say it served in New Guinea, probably based at one of the five LAND airfields at Rabaul (not a carrier in sight) Jeez.

Isn't the internet great? wink Apparently the green Zero was just abandoned on the airstrip at the end of the war, was recovered in 1974 and took twenty years of work to restore to her current condition.

Hey! I specialise in WW2's Western Front 1944 to 1945, not the Pacific or the Air war! ranting

  • OFF TOPIC WARNING*
Not sure if you're an 'expert' or just taking the piss, but I've got a shed load of WW2 stereo pair photographs that were my Grandads. He was in the Far East interpreting photo-recon images from the RAF. I've got a few of an airstrip with what look like Zero's (dark camofluage!!) on dispersal and a couple of twin engined bombers, also some with capsized ships in a large river. Looking at them through stereo glasses is incredible. Fancy a go at identifying the locations?

BTW there was one sequence of images of a large city - turned out to be Bankok. God bless him!

What am I suppose to have done?

I just thought that it would be nice to show you all a nice, WW2 era colour shot of an operational Typhoon.

Hmmm - first time I've been accused of RUINING an aviation themed thread.

Oh well, there's a first time for everything.

(And I already did post an opinion about my "Top 3").
