Everyone knows that the Type 52 came out late in the war as an (inadequaate) response to the Hellcats and Corsairs. The Zero pictured was built around October 1943, from the markings I would say it served in New Guinea, probably based at one of the five LAND airfields at Rabaul (not a carrier in sight) Jeez.
Isn't the internet great? Apparently the green Zero was just abandoned on the airstrip at the end of the war, was recovered in 1974 and took twenty years of work to restore to her current condition.
