I was driving up the M6 south of Penrith years ago and the exhaust started to blow, it go louder and louder, then the car shook, it was a Buccaneer going over us at low level, followed by his mate, very impressive but scary.

Have seen jets many times when hillwalking, one day on the Cuillin in Skye we were watching the Tornados playing 'hide and seek', diving down the glens and the zooming up over the hills, must have had strong stomachs!

Another time my mate and I were on the Aonach Eagach ridge in Glencoe, and we both swore that one of the Tornados went under the Ballachullish Bridge......

Got a joyride In an F3 when I was 15 and in the ATC. Best experience of my life. Those guys have the best job.

P.s OP is clearly a bit of a lady boy.

Was sat in long queue of traffic at the old lights on A40 at Hillingdon (so sat beside RAF Northolt for those unfamiliar) in mid summer evening rush hour in late 80's, when the Memorial flight Lancaster, Spit & Hurricane flew along the A40 route very very low, presumably as a some mark of respect to the old BoB base.

A waggle of the Lancs wings passing the aerodrome and then they were gone.

Just fantastic.

The lights changed during the approach but did anybody move ? No

Did anybody sound their horn at the traffic ? No.

Did everybody wave out of the opened windows & sunroofs ? yes

didn't I hear somewhere they are talking about cutting the Tornado squadrons by half?

maybe the pilot is on his way out and thought - fk it - let's have a laugh

frankly - I say good on him.

Obviously not good if someone has a crash or a HA - but still - what a laugh it must be to fly that thing

I'll bet the pilot can park his tornado better than most range rover drivers can park their vehicles though! whistle

Aren't you supposed to fly them rather than drive them?

WOW...a Tornado joyride! I've been an adult instructor in the ATC for 6 years and have never known of a fast jet joyride!! jammy sod, closest thing was a Tucano jolly for best cadet at an annual camp being held at Linton.

I've been 'buzzed' fairly often by Harriers in the Brecon Beacons.

Sadly something I'll never experience again.

Just remembered another time being buzzed by them.

My dad used to plant trees for the forestry commission and I often used to go with him on school holidays so I could go and play in the rivers and woods.
There were 5 of us all together, Dad, Granddad, Uncle, Dads friend (who was trained in the army, that'll become relevant later) and me I was at the top of the hill they were planting with Dad and the rest were down the hill at various intervals.

Dad and I heard then spotted a Jet (Jaguar, as far as I remember) heading toward us but from the other side of the hill from were the others were. As it came over the top there was an almighty ROAR, I'm sure we could feel the heat off the engines and definitely felt the down draft. We saw it and we nearly shat ourselves, the rest all screamed out loud as it went over, but the friend threw his spade and bag down and just ran off until he realised what had happened. He was asked if that was part of the training he received when he was in the army hehe

Yes, but don't you sometimes go a little too fast for the roads when they are clear? You can't say you wouldn't if you were skilled enough and had the opportunity, if you do, you are lying.

Doesn't the BBMF Lancaster have to avoid flying near major roads for the risk of it being a distraction?

The OP was clearly hogging the middle lane and was upset when a young upstart on a vehicle with flames on the side made startling progress past him down the motorway.

Love it when this happens - although I do have to remember I'm driving and shouldn't really be looking in the sky to see if there's two of them.

The Mach loop is great if you want to spend some time in the hills above the jets.
