It's not really there, it's a Mirage.

It's also been recovered - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2007611/N...

I wonder how much work is needed to get it flying again?

Didn’t realise the B58 had separate crew compartments, I assumed it was just 2 crew side by side.

Martin XB 51

Post ww2 Korean War era bomber that never made it into service as it lost out in evaluation to the Canberra which had better endurance and Martin ended up making that instead.

Probably not classed as amazingly cool, but I'm not regular on this forum. Was out on a walk today and found this parked in a field:

Looks like it's this - not sure what's happened to it...

Looks like it's been hit by another prop, weird angle though. It doesn't seem too lucky as in 2017 - https://www.gov.uk/aaib-reports/aaib-investigation... (unlikely the same incident but I suppose it could be)

1989... https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/542...
2007... https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/542...G-AXXV__DE99208-07.pdf

Can't find anything about a recent incident, but then maybe there's a report coming soon if there's been another incident involving DE992/G-AXXV

Can't get that second link to work, so make like you want to quote this post then highlight the text of the link, right click then "go to" in the menu box.

I love this era of just post was aircraft, we hadn't got stuck in conventions, and anything seemed to go.
When I was a kid I picked up a scruffy aircraft book from the late 50's and it had listing of loads of new aircraft and there's some amazing designs with all sorts of shapes and engines stuck all over the place. You can see where Jerry Anderson got his ideas.

This particular aircraft became a film star in its own right. It was featured in a movie called "Towards the Unknown". However, in the film it was rebranded as the Gilbert XF-120.

Yeah same here.

I think it’s a bit like F1 where previously it was cheaper to make a car so you could experiment with new designs more and also there was far less data available so you didn’t all settle on the same solutions.

Not just F1 to be honest - even 'normal' supercars or sports cars just seemed more 'other worldly' for want of a better expression

I guess because they were designed by artists rather than aerodynamicists. When you decide everything with numbers your journey becomes very boring very quickly.

I read that as Belgian Airfords on the starboard wing and was surprised that Ford were still making aircraft.
