I remember hearing Jack Dee going on about how cool Americans sound under pressure!
He cited "Hey Houston, we have a problem" as an example..........
On a UK spaceship " fooking hell, the foking rocket's fooked and we're all gunna die!!!"![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)

Very professional
Love the way that ATC just instantly gave him whatever he needed without a second thought and how quickly they recognised that he was in trouble.
I bet 'Sully' is going to be very sought after from airlines.
He has a personal consultancy on the side training pilots in safety and emergency procedures. This episode can't hurt.Love the way that ATC just instantly gave him whatever he needed without a second thought and how quickly they recognised that he was in trouble.

Not sure if it's already been posted, but here's a complete transcript between various planes, tracon & tower, before during & after the bird strike.
Linky
Bits of the audio version of that were broadcast on R4 this morning, counterpointing Christian Bale's trantrum about how his playing dress-up and make-believe were interrupted.Linky
Let's just say that the bloke who was doing a job that actually mattered came across as significantly more impressive.
What did people expect?
Pilots are usually EXTREMELY propfessional people and they very rarely panic under stressful situations.
The Apollo 13 episode is a very good example of how pilots react to potentially disastrous circumstances. Jim Lovell has often been asked - "Didn't you feel any panic?". His normal answer has always been "What was the point in running around bouncing off the walls. After you had done that, you'ld still have to deal with the problem".

Some interesting pics of the recovery op here. One engine still attached, which I'm surprised at given they are supposed to break away. Sorry if repost but I'm not trawling through 20 pages.

Nice inadvertent SP there Eric. I think the plane obsession is starting to affect your day to day life.Pilots are usually EXTREMELY propfessional people and they very rarely panic under stressful situations.

Strangest thing is he never called mayday or a pan ![confused](/inc/images/confused.gif)
I suppose he thought that landing in the Hudson smack in downtown Manhatten was going to be enough to let folks know something was up. ![confused](/inc/images/confused.gif)
