Having never seen a military plane on (free version) of FlightRadar I’ve just logged on and found:

2 Eurofighters off the Lincs coast
3 Hawks from Valley looping around the Irish Sea
A USAF Dornier from Luton over Scotland

Although I appear too late for the Alouette

Are we being invaded or do the military just fly on Tuesdays after lunch?

It’s somewhat unusual

Cheers

I just love the idea of the in flight announcement ‘ we shall be clearing away in flight service-we hope you enjoyed your roast beef sandwiches- and shortly landing in Deadhorse’”

Because they come under the control of the refuelling plane once visual so operate under the same squark code as the tanker (effectively operating as 1 aircraft.

I’m crew on the E3D, when we tank we switch off all sorts of stuff to prevent transmissions from antenna incase there is ever a fuel leak and fuel goes on the surface of the plane. I know for example it is in our SOP to turn IFF off. TCAS also tends to get very pissed off when your that close :-)

No one for example wants 500W oh HF energy radiating from the aircraft skin while fuel runs over it.

I don’t know the euro fighter SOP but I imagine they have similar procedures.

Nope can't think of anything in that area that they would be working with. hehe

Aren't the CWLs the Grob trainers out of Cranwell? When I lived near Wyton a few years ago they would regularly practise formation flying(often badly!) overhead north of Huntingdon.

SYS are Shawbury callsigns as far as I know, used to be Defence Helicopter Flying School since renamed and got rid of the Squirrels.

Use ADSB, and you'll see what they are.

Usually denotes their base

CWL = RAF Cranwell
SYS = RAF Shawbury ( although they these use other call signs such as IRMINE / Maximise / Snitch as well )
BKH = RAF Barkston Heath
VYT = RAF Valley ( Usually for the Texans )

SHF = Usually denotes Support Helicopter Fleet ( Chinooks , Pumas ) but they use others as well.

I am sure there are others but these are the ones I see regularly

There's a Grob up at the moment out of Cranwell bucking the trend, with a WRBOY1 callsign.
