The Great River Ouse Spotted thread hehe
As a St Ives resident who only gets on a boat for a week once a year, I'm appreciating seeing the Ouse from the river, not the side. It took a moment to adjust my perspective to the photo's of St Ives a few pages ago. I need to point the friends I normally go with in the direction of this thread, to show them there is more to the waterways than the midlands and north. I've been trying for a few years but failed.

One success on the last trip was my dog only got one foot wet, normally she falls in once or twice during the holiday. Previously just walking along the towpath there was a splash and a confused wet dog.

Well thank you all for the lovely welcome. This is one thing I really like about being on the river, the friendliness of all.
My grumpy Father-In-Law has just got himself a boat on The Broads (an 80s Fairline Corniche) and that's the thing he doesn't like about it - he hates that everyone's so friendly hehe

I’ve seen a whole new world from the river. Bit of paddle boarding around Hemmingford. Godmanchester is lovely on the back water. I’m having a proper nosey in spooled gardens hehe

Is this the right thread for cabin boats too, or can I be pointed elsewhere?

We’ve just paid a deposit on a Birchwood 25, so lots to learn! Will only be for pootling between Bristol and Bath with the kids but can’t wait!

Well that was short lived. My business partner took his kids out for the boats maiden voyage last Sunday and received a message via the seller that the mooring owner stated we’re no longer welcome there.

Fortunately the seller agreed a refund less some fees, but we’re back out of the game for a bit. Frustrating, but we move on!

Blimey. Some marina owners can be a bit weird. Maybe some other boat-owners there objected to noisy children etc.

I don't like getting third party information so I'd ring up the marina owner and find out what the truth is.

Why were there fees involved in the refund? It wasn't your decision to pull out of the sale.

Why not compete the sale and move the boat elsewhere? Seems you're better off away from that place anyway.

We’d agree the sale on the understanding mooring was transferrable and had verbal agreement if this with the marina owner at the time.

The issue came about after the sale had been made, so as far as the seller was concerned his money was banked and it was a done deal. We were very grateful to him that he agreed to refund so we put some money towards his relocation fees as he’s also lost the mooring.

We could’ve searched for alternatives, but the location was the main selling point for us and the only other available option in close proximity takes a 22ft maximum.

We’ll reevaluate over the winter and find something to suit in the spring. It’s a shame, but we’re better off somewhere we’re welcome!

I take it that marina owners can pretty much do what they want?

Fair enough. So the marina owner kicked the boat owner out as well then?

I hope you find somewhere nice next year, and an even better boat :-)

Pretty much - it's their land or business after all. But reputations spread. On my river we have Mr Scruffy, the swivel-eyed loony, the alcoholic and Mad Jeremy. The others seem OK though!

Basically. Like landlords.

Obviously if you have a contract, legally they have to stick to it, whatever it says. But it might not have much to protect you, and even if it does they can basically just make your life hell till you go anyway.

Fortunately, with some very real exceptions and associated horror stories, most are decent and problem free.

Well she’s in

k

Will spend the weekend working on her engine and hopefully bring her upstream an hour or so to her new home. Long way to go from there but excited to get stuck in.

Top pic looks quite ghostly! (ghostly not ghastly)

I can't remember where it is but you'll have to invite us all to a commissioning party next spring jester

I like the first photo. Not sure how I managed to capture her like that but agree looks very ghost ship. Definitely keeping her grey too (so far. Woman’s prerogative and all that). I have suggested Leopard print but he’s not in to that hehe

On the Ouse near Simon’s expensive pint wink

We have plenty of BBQs so will let you know when to head over for a burger smile

That should be in cruising range - first booking for 2022, woot!!

I suppose seeing as your boat's made of steel you don't need a BBQ, just set a fire on the roof and sweep the ash off in the morning spin

That’s not a bad idea for when we sail her home over the weekend if we can’t fit the temporary wood burner scratchchin

She’s still sitting and dry today. Other half thinks she’s listing slightly but will be due to empty tanks and no weight. I just want to get stuck in!

Yep gas lockers. Probably put there for weight balance. There are pipes running down to where we want the kitchen so hopefully won’t be a major job. Well not as major as all the other major jobs… can’t wait to get them painted though.
