Downstairs in the nose is where you want to be on the Virgin 747's!

Heathrow to Denver is always a 747, flown in one many times since they started flying direct.

Denver is also great this time of year, headline temps are cold but the (lack of) humidity makes it tee shirt weather at -3!
Do you mean BA? Because, living in Denver, and having flow BA direct to and from Denver since 2004...I've never flown on a 747.

Not gone home in the last 5 years though(kids). Couldn't tell you what it was when I have flown, except not a 747!
It certainly always used to be a B777, BA direct from Heathrow to Denver, not sure when it changed to a 747.
We went in a 747 to DEN with BA back in spring 2016. Our eldest was about 6 months then and we were in the upper deck. It was definitely worth the money.

A few years ago I visited Lisbon on hols. Flew out on a 737 but the flight back to LHR was a 747. It was returning after delivering many football supporters to a match in Lisbon.

There were about 100 of us on it. It felt completely empty, we got to wander around and sit anywhere

Definitely get the upper deck if you can
Reminds me of a story I read in Skyport the Heathrow Airport newspaper a few years back, about someone who ended up flying back from JFK to Heathrow on a 747 which due to his flight going tech, and everyone else going on another flight, and the aircraft being fixed sooner than expected (or something like that) the aircraft effectively became a repositioning flight, with him being the sole passenger.

I’d be pissed off if I didn’t get upgraded to First hehe

Fantastic Kites the 747s. Hence the reason they were chosen as the basis for the current U.S. main Presidential airborne conveyance ( Airforce 1 is the term used for any fixed wing aircraft carrying the president, the 747 based aircraft is the one that most people equate with the term though).

Me and a mate were booked Cathay economy from Bangkok to HK many years ago. Got on the plane and was very confused. We had seats in row 7 but the first row started at something like 14. A Stewardess saw our confusion and ushered us upstairs. Was even more confused to find myself in Marco Polo class bring served champagne by Miss World! Yes we had been upgraded but no idea why. An awesome experience as far as flying is concerned.

Frost/Nixon is on Amazon Prime. That has a scene or two set in the top deck of a 747.

And they've got different door locks on the weapons cabinets. I've seen NCIS.

...and if we're narrowing down to individual marques, I made a few trips in this /300.

This was a long time ago (pre 911) so he finished the flight in the cockpit on landing.
Lucky git.

The view from 1K for me, every time. The curvature of the nose is as close as we will probably get to 'forward' facing passenger windows! Excuse the slight blurriness. drunk

Did BA ever seriously consider buying the 747-8?

I don't think so. I think they were already in the committed to the A380 camp.

They have refitted some of the 747's that they are keeping. You have to work at it to find out what route they are on though.

I have a friend on BA206 from Miami to Heathrow tonight. It's a 23 year old 747 so I will find out soon what he thought of it.
