Wasn't there a wartime documentary called "The Mighty Eighth" as well? The US War Department presents - The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress (1944) - 42m30s

There's Hanover Street with Harrison Ford too:
... Don't know why they needed to use a Yank plane for a British commando drop either as the RAF was quite capable (reference the drop of the two blokes that killed Reinhard Heydrich)
Current favourite for the best air to air cinematography of recent times is "Les Chevaliers du Ciel"
The storyline is a bit pants, and the acting a little hammy for a french movie - probably becasue it has its roots in a comic strip, but nonetheless very entertaining. I'd consider it worthy of the label "Fast-Jet Porn"

I think "Piece of Cake" was based ona book by Derek Robinson, not Len Deighton.
As regards to "Hanover Street", I didn't even know that there was an original book.
The film wasn't terribly well received at the time. My main memory of the film is to do with my aviation enthusiast activities as a teenager. Some of the B-25 Mitchells staged through Dublin on the way out of the UK in 1978 - some getting stranded in the process. As a spotter at the time, ity was quite nice to see a couple of B-25s parked near the large "Jumbo Hangar" at Dublin Airport.

I just remember having a random copy of Aeroplane Monthly with a feature on it.As regards to "Hanover Street", I didn't even know that there was an original book.

A good film (not a great film) was the Kirk Douglas one where his aircraft carrier goes back in time to WW2.
A great moment in the good film was when 2 Tom Cats buzzed a Japanese pilot in his Zero
Mentioned already (by me and others) - The Final Countdown.A great moment in the good film was when 2 Tom Cats buzzed a Japanese pilot in his Zero
/shamemode

A great moment - the expression on Tojo's face when the F14s bounce his Zero.Mentioned already (by me and others) - The Final Countdown.
Just a damn shame we never saw them get stuck into the Japanese striking force

I know it is a bit of a crap film, but some of 'Pearl Harbor' was good - i.e the Doolittle raid.
There is a film specifically about the Doolittle raid but I can't remember the title. It's pretty good, though, understated. A sort of American Dambusters.Edited by Eric Mc on Tuesday 23 March 16:48
