Was having a look through this thread and it looks like a lot of the early posts have lost their pictures and lately its been a bit quiet on here so I thought perhaps we could fire it up again and maybe have a run through peoples favorite yachts and the reason why you like it compared to other yachts.

And if we have any insider stories on any of the yachts mentioned that would also be a hit.

My all time favorite is Luna

It was the first time I had seen a yacht up close, in a sea of rusting metal and general filth there was this stunning looking vessel, a few days before we spotted it, we had seen beautiful blonde woman in perfect white uniform cycling through the aforementioned disgusting rusty brown yard and we couldn't work out why until we spotted Luna.

Here is a picture of her (the vessel) surrounded by all the chaos and dirt of the shipyard.

Having followed up after spotting her in 2018, I found this article:

https://www.boatinternational.com/yachts/editorial...

What is really striking about Luna is how tasteful the interior design is in comparison to some yachts. The exposed wooden décor is beautiful!

The external lines and design is also simple and uncomplicated, I love the beach club and how it looks seamless between inside and outside.

Finally the tender is also stunningly beautiful.

So when I reach my first billion, this is what I will buy as a reward biglaugh

Fabulous, would 1 billion would be sufficient to run it?

Yeah I think I would have enough money left over from buying it to run it for a while, I am also assuming that the first billion is the hardest one to make, after that the second one would hopefully come a little easier haha

I agree on the making sure they are punished but they do have a point when it comes to superyachts and private jets. Conspicuous and largely needless consumption.
How would you justify your Aston to them?

Where do we draw the moral line between eating bread & water and living in a cave, and floating on yachts and flying in planes?
A car is a car. If I didn't have an Aston, then I would have another car and travelling those same miles. It might be a little more economical but it really won't make much of a difference. If I weren't driving the Aston (which gets little use) then it consumes nothing.

A superyacht consumes great gobs of energy 24/7/365. An alternative would be a villa - much less energy. The alternative to a private plane would be to fly scheduled - a fraction of the carbon.
The odd individual using lots of energy is not the problem, it is the billions of people using accumulated monster amounts of energy that is the problem. You could delete every super yacht in the world and it would hardly even register.

I'm not an expert but would imagine all 3 comfortably make this thread. How long are you there for? Don't forget to visit the Absinthe bar and wear silly hats. Take photos as you wont actually remember it the next day laugh

We head inland on Thursday for a couple of nights before flying back to the sandpit, I have a 6 and 4 year old in tow so will swerve Absinthe related activities and stick with the Rosé!

Juan Les Pins is today's exploring route

But it is an issue, if you have a village of 100 people that are asked to turn off the lights and go without, having one of those people continue to be allowed to consume wantonly will cause issues with the other 99. People will point to that person as an excuse to carry on doing what they were before, if they want to change things then it can't be one rule for most and another rule for others....

Lurssen have been busy exploring a better way to propulse their future superyacht. First one is coming out in 2025 (Cosmos) if I remember rightly. They are using methanol-hydrogen technology. They have used it for a number of years as an experiment in one of the shipyards to produce energy very successfully. Much greener than the current yachts.

I'm sure some have watched it already, but loved this extensive refit of Oceanco's "H".

Really the only thing I didn't like on it was the silly hallway TV thing with the aquarium screensaver on it..."it's got 12.5 million pixels", which sounds like a lot, until you realize that just with the 2 monitors on my desk I already have 2 million more pixels, and last I checked my monitors weren't floor to ceiling or 10.5 meters long.

The pixel density would be absolutely awful.

Yes they are going to have to look greener, there are thousands of super yachts thousands of them and they are profligate consumers of energy, extraordinarily so, Luna can produce enough to power a town of 25,000 people and they will come into sharp focus as they present an easy target.

On the subject of Luna, it's a fabulous yacht and one of my favourites.

Indeed, and I suppose a 110m boat is an easy target, as there is no real justifcation to need one.
They shouldn't have done it, and should be fined/jailed/whatever, but it's a much more reasonably targeted protest than preventing thousands of normal people from getting to work.

(Once again in case it gets missed - they should be fined/jailed/whatever smile)
I agree on the making sure they are punished but they do have a point when it comes to superyachts and private jets. Conspicuous and largely needless consumption. Unlike people trying to get to work. I rather enjoyed when JSO tried to stop trains in the East End and the commuters almost lynched them.
Not to get the thread sidetracked but that opinion is a dangerous slippery slope, one man's pride and joy can be an activists needless consumption. Who decides on that what's conspicuous?

I saw our forum friend sailing into Santorini last month... Maltese Falcon

Lastly, has anyone seen Motor Yacht Loon's new youtube channel? It's a great 'behind the scenes' view of the boat.
Interestingly I was told about the boat being for sale about 3 years ago when she called Icon, I have the brochures and survey on my laptop here.
I was about 50% short of the finance needed but after watching the recent videos of what's involved, I'm glad I didn't try and raise the capital! I was kidding myself it could be run on a shoestring budget...

TheCrewChef has started working on Loon as rotational Head Chef. Not sure if you're aware of her channel but if you're interested in the yacht her channel might be of interest too. Just the one video so far re Loon, though I'm a fan of the back catalogue.

ETA: I see they've a video on their channel too.

The headline figure of being able to power a town of 25 000 people is a bit misleading, just because it has that level of installed power doesn't mean that it runs permanently with all the generators online at 100% load.

Having said that the consumption even on standby will mind blowing so not really sure why I am defending it, other than I love the yacht biglaugh

It's not misleading as it's correct I didn't say it ran at that level permanently if I told you a cars engine could produce 400hp you wouldn't think it made that at idle.

One of my favourites as well as I stated but that doesn't mean I'm blind to the issues of large yachts.

Always loved the look of Kaos. Shame about the horrible interior. I haven't seen it since the refit though.

We popped to Barcelona today from our holiday base near Perpignan.

Bumped into MY Galaxy. We last saw her in St Tropez 3 years ago and I filmed her leaving. Also got some pics of Talisman C and Tatoosh. (Excuse the pics- good photo access was tricky)
