I’ve seen the Vulcan fly a few times - last was at Goodwood - but sadly planes do die. RIP and all that.

Yes the Shakelton. If were talking about the Vulcan, and they want to move it, then well arrange a pub meeting and XH558 can come to us. I believe it can be moved, rignt??? paperbag

What’s this got to do with Concorde? Are you suggesting it’s moving to brooklands?

Anyone seen the reasonably sensible thread about XH558 that used to inhabit these parts?

Yeah, it turned into fantasy suggestions that the plane would fly out of Doncaster and went down hill for a while. It's getting more reasonable now though.

I think that’s when they’re planning to start sympathetically taking her to bits ready to be moved somewhere else (Elvington IIRC).
This is where the confusion starts for me...Elvington...where did you glean this from?

Matt’s original comment wasn’t quoting anything so even reading along through the thread it’s easy to see why some think it’s the Vulcan.

Didn't there used to be a thread about the Shackleton? I'm much more interested in that, given that it has proper reciprocating engines, with pistons, and not these new-fangled turbines. Could it fly again? Again, much more interested to watch a Shackleton clatter about. It's a basically a Lancaster with Griffons, FFS.

Doubtful we will ever see a return to flight of a Shackleton.

I know. But it's more possible than a Vulcan. Or a Hawker Typhoon.

Thread is here (to avoid dragging the Vulcan thread off topic any more!)

Rich is a friend of mine and from what I can gather:

a) There is no technical barrier to the Shackleton returning to flight, its wartime construction falls under a much easier set of regs than the "complex" category Vulcan. The issue however is money as SPT operates like most trusts on a shoestring. In my personal opinion here, VTTS and their behaviour have made life ever so much more difficult for legitimate aircraft groups run by genuine people to get funding and goodwill

b) keep an eye on Just Jane - as and when that finally returns to flight, it will have blazed a lot of trails through certification and suppliers etc which will then make life much easier for any lanc, shack or lincoln to follow

c) The dismantling of the 963 to move it to Elvington will in a way be beneficial, as a lot of the deep inspections and NDT on the wing roots etc. that is needed to return to flight, would have required a similar level of dismantling anyway (this also answers the question of why 963 currently can't be flown to her new home)

That's straight from VTTS Facebook page.
And yet today VTTS have said that she will be run again in 2023!!!

More rubbish from them bearing in mind the airport is now closed.
