It's like something from a film and it's quite amazing the pilot has come out alive. Not much to say other than it's awful and I'm glad I'm not involved in the scene.

Found something about the flaps from an earlier incident.

So very sad and horrendous to watch that video, RIP to all the poor souls lost.
I know it's early days but the pilot does look like he did not get enough altitude to perform that loop, and as a result and the very bottom of his loop manoeuvre simply ran out of distance between his aircraft and the ground.
What's even more horrifying to see is what looks like people and cars scattering after the initial impact.
Sadly I suspect the death toll will end up being into double figures.

Nope. Speed required to loop a Hunter exceeds the max allowable speed for flap deployment by all accounts, but as to why they were deployed, that'll be for AAIB.
Hunter T7s have flown display aerobatics including loops with flap deployed before. Flap limit is 300 knots, although I'd agree with you that I'd have thought the entry & exit speed would be higher than that. What a terrible day.
EDIT: Just noted davepoth's post above regarding flap.

I am fairly sure that junction is the main entrance and exit to the airfield. There is an alternative exit the other side of the airport, however it is under the railway so there is a low height bridge. Also the A259 which it exits on to will be exceptionally busy, so those at the show will be stuck there for some time.RIP to those involved. A shocking tragedy
I know it's too early to speculate and someone else has alluded to this but I thought the point of a seaside show (and any show) is that there is a 'safe and sterile' area where the planes perform, which I would assume would be over the sea in this show.

Daily Mail have changed the coverage to now say the pilot is in hospital and recovering. They could be talking rubbish and will probably just edit it out of existence if wrong, but seems an odd thing to say over reporting 'witnesses say the pilot was puled from the wreckage' type thing.
As far as the comments referring to why they did not perform the routines over the sea, i would guess that is because Brighton city airport is not close enough to the sea, for people who are at the airfield to see anything clearly from that distance.
There is a river with an outlet to the sea close to the field as I recall ( is it the ardur? Sorry not sure) that they could have been using to fly over during the routines?

It's a conventional 'inland' airshow, the A27 is just at the north end of the runway. People were questioning the use of fast ex-military jets in civilian use after Carfest, so it will be interesting to see what comes out of this.
I also feel sick having read and watched the footage.
We need to understand how this came down on a main road.
I love watching old planes as much as all of us here.
But 7 families will be getting a knock on the door today, telling them that their loved one is gone.
I'd rather ground all non commercial planes than have this happen again.
I have no issue if it's the pilots being killed.

The DM have named the Pilot, I won't repeat it as I don't think it right.
