I flew back from Alicante with Ryanair yesterday, I remembered this thread so asked the stewardess why they did this.
She told me to fk off because I hadn't paid enough to ask questions and if I didn't like it I could always fly with somebody else, whilst I was being told off all of the window seats had been taken

So they have to spend the thick end of £5000 to get an instructor rating then compete with the established instructors (and take their hours)? There's also the small matter of flight time limitations and everyone knows RYR captains are maxed out. Not so the FOs once their (bought) 500 hours are used up I suppose but even they'll have trouble finding the extra work.
So, no. They can't "...get around that easy (sic)..."
I'm just going by from the conversations i have with the flight deck crew, but a good friend is a Capt and he is employed by FR and has been with them for 6 years. So, no. They can't "...get around that easy (sic)..."

With regards to the self employed part and extra work i spoke with a couple of FO's today and one is a part time DJ an the other a graphic designer, they also went on to say the other guys do all sorts of stuff.
I take it you work in the industry to know so much on the matter?

My Brother In Law is a FO for Ryanair, he is self employed and has worked at 2 bases in the last 3 years, he has always flown pretty much full time hours with them at both bases as have the others he started with.
Does he claim to be a DJ or a graphic designer when people ask him what he does for a living though?Urban Sports said:

Understood. The one who "works as a store assistant" should come to terms with himself though, and accept that flying for BMI isn't something he should have to lie to his family about. Mostly.IM NUTS2 said:

Corporate aviation but close enough to see what's been happening. Thankfully I've no inclination to buy a job at Ryanair or any other airline, that sort of work just isn't an itch I've needed to scratch.Edited by Flintstone on Saturday 19th February 23:49
