Bit sobering to see the XB-70 and F-104 images posted right next to each other.
Similar thought here. I wondered if the XB-70 image was taken from an F-104. Can’t recall if there was an F-5 two seater involved as chase plane when the collision happened. Need to look up the images.JeremyH5 said:

F-104s were used a lot as chase planes during the XB-70 test programme. At the time of the accident, they weren't really performing chase duties. The F-104 and a group of other aircraft (including an F-5, an F-4 Phantom and a Learjet formated on the XB-70 for some publicity shots requested by the engine manufacturer, General Electric, whose engines powered all the aircraft in that formation. The planes were flying much closer together than they would normally do when performing normal chase duties.Brother D said:
FWD cheers for the info! Went to the Dayton Ohio air museum afterwards. The absolute best air museum I've ever been to, with the highlight of seeing the remaining Valkyrie. Picture just dosen't do it justice.
Definitely the best air museum in my experience. Do you live far from it?The X-15A Hypersonic Aircraft mentioned in the link above is also there.

Unfortunately a 2hr flight away, else I'd be there every weekend (and they were recruiting for volunteers)
