And gusting to 31mph, and direct from the north, which means virtually a cross wind for Coningsby, so no surprise the Lanc was a no-go.

Shame.
yes Looking at the traffic situation in the Ladybower area at the moment, there will be a great many disappointed people.
Them's the breaks as they say.....

The news is that even the replacement Typhoon aborted the flypast due to poor weather at low level..............
Very true - fortunately I saw both at Old Warden just over a week ago. smile

Wrong! The Typhoon did a flypast about 15 mins after it was announced it was cancelled. Most folks packed up and went. Luckily we hung around.

The organisation and communication around the whole ‘event’ was appalling.

Yep, a complete shambles by all concerned. No issue with the Lancaster not making it, but they completely cocked up the 75th anniversary flypast.

What a shame. Imagine waiting hours in the cloud and drizzle and then it gets cancelled so you walk to the car and miss a fly past.

The thing is it wasn’t ‘cloud and drizzle’. Visibility was in miles, not feet, and it was dry.

We waited after the ‘cancellaton’ More out of disbelief than expectation. We were lucky, most weren’t.

I suppose ginettagirl will blame the navy, as the RAF is beyond criticism and no other organisation can sort out a p*** up in a brewery, or a flypast in the sky.

I live just up the road from Old Warden. Shame today’s flyoast didn’t happen. But for safety sake etc

Here’s some pics from a few years ago when I stalked both Lancs around the U.K.

Posted some videos on Instagram at 2128 and had a proper cry.

My Mrs reckons there was two typhoons that did a fly-by.

Only a single run by a lone Typhoon.

The best I could do out of 10 shots with a new camera and not much warning:

Need a Buccaneer on standby for adverse weather.

The Derwent valley is in permanent anticipation of a low flying aircraft or two.

That's by far the best photo from yesterday that I've seen.

Whichever way you dress it up, the Dambuster tribute was a PR disaster for the RAF in the service's 100th year.

Thanks! We were lucky. We based our decision to stay put despite being told it was off, on the fact that ever since the flypast was announced, nobody (from the RAF downwards) appeared to have the first clue what was going to happen. It’s actually quite scary - hopefully a blip. These things usually run like clockwork (even with unavoidable issues like weather and serviceability considered). I was told a couple of C-130’s flew over the dam at 17:00 after everyone had gone...

The Lancaster made two passes over the Ladybower dam at approx. 8:30 this morning prior to landing at Waddington.

With one of the original Dambusters crew aboard. Fair play to them for doing that. That's the way it goes with the weather!
