And gusting to 31mph, and direct from the north, which means virtually a cross wind for Coningsby, so no surprise the Lanc was a no-go.
Shame.
Looking at the traffic situation in the Ladybower area at the moment, there will be a great many disappointed people.Shame.
The news is that even the replacement Typhoon aborted the flypast due to poor weather at low level..............

The organisation and communication around the whole ‘event’ was appalling.

Wrong! The Typhoon did a flypast about 15 mins after it was announced it was cancelled. Most folks packed up and went. Luckily we hung around.
I was only going why what OC BMMF tweeted......... Riley Blue said:

What a shame. Imagine waiting hours in the cloud and drizzle and then it gets cancelled so you walk to the car and miss a fly past.
The thing is it wasn’t ‘cloud and drizzle’. Visibility was in miles, not feet, and it was dry.We waited after the ‘cancellaton’ More out of disbelief than expectation. We were lucky, most weren’t.

Very true - fortunately I saw both at Old Warden just over a week ago.
I live just up the road from Old Warden. Shame today’s flyoast didn’t happen. But for safety sake etcHere’s some pics from a few years ago when I stalked both Lancs around the U.K.
Posted some videos on Instagram at 2128 and had a proper cry.

That's by far the best photo from yesterday that I've seen.
Whichever way you dress it up, the Dambuster tribute was a PR disaster for the RAF in the service's 100th year.
Thanks! We were lucky. We based our decision to stay put despite being told it was off, on the fact that ever since the flypast was announced, nobody (from the RAF downwards) appeared to have the first clue what was going to happen. It’s actually quite scary - hopefully a blip. These things usually run like clockwork (even with unavoidable issues like weather and serviceability considered). I was told a couple of C-130’s flew over the dam at 17:00 after everyone had gone...Whichever way you dress it up, the Dambuster tribute was a PR disaster for the RAF in the service's 100th year.
The Lancaster made two passes over the Ladybower dam at approx. 8:30 this morning prior to landing at Waddington.
