I was lucky enough to spot this beautiful Classic Riva in my local marina yesterday. I was so busy watching it come past me that I almost forgot to take a picture. I did catch up with the owner for a quick chat whilst he was refuelling. He told me it was built in 1962 and that he's owned it for the last 27 years. Just stunning and something I doubt I'll ever see again.

That’s beautiful!

My wife and I spent a week in Como in 2018, I’ve never seen so many classic motor boats in one place.

My favourite mechanical object in the whole wide world. And I'm not a sailor.

Very clever boat building, no fastners visible in the topsides.

I can tell you that the Riva I saw was a twin engine V8 Tritone.

I think it was there that I saw my first Riva. I didn't know what it was, but knew I was in love with it. It was either a Super Tritone or Super Aquarama.

I've been wondering whether I might have seen a Riva before. I had, Valerie 111 was at Techno Classica 2006:

I've sold a few in my time... perhaps the most memorable was a Super Ariston that was in about 1,000 pieces on the shopfloor of Peter Freebody. I had a client come to talk to me about buying a sailing yacht and in conversation he mentioned that as a teenager, he had helped out with the owner of a Super Ariston on one of the German lakes. I mentioned that I knew of one being fully restored, and he promptly bought it.

The last Riva I sold was a slightly different kettle of fish... a Riva 88 Domino Super.

Are they any good? Or are they trading on the name? Genuine question, I don’t know.

Very good and still special boats. Still have a good range of boats from 8 up to 50 meters...In my yard at lake garda they keep about 30 wooden Rivas, all on the shelves in the hangar. Happy to take a picture for you giuys if you are interested, quite a sight!

I wanted a Super Aquarama twenty years ago, when they were £250k and had been for a long time. I don't want to check what I would need to pay for a good 'un now.

That’s where my brother bought his Super Florida from. As you say quite a sight to see them stacked up. He’s on PH, so might be along sooner or later.
