Just seen a low speed head on last night has left one dead, sadly assuming driver looking at pictures.

Single track line two sprinter type trains, not good for all involved, poor sod in other cab probably mates with guy coming other way etc

It's also near to a section of road that has collapsed, and will soon need to be shut for weeks to repair. It's a difficult section of road and rail there, and very awkward with the single track with passing place.

It's very sad - generally it's a safe line with modern signalling but don't think that played a part here. Reports say passenger rather than driver.

All the discussion on railforums, including some inside information, says it was railhead contamination, aka "leaves on the line", with one train sliding a long way instead of stopping.

A passenger died, apparently of a heart attack.

Tricky geography there near the Talerddig cutting. The A470 indeed due to shut for a prolonged time for stabilisation works.

One comment I read elsewhere suggests that the cab signalling system being tested on that line may well have stopped the other train once the first one ran through Talerddig loop. If this is true then it probably dramatically reduced the potential speed of collision and may well have significantly reduced the number of injuries.

Isn’t the Cambrian line the test line of the ETCS signalling system in the U.K.?

Yes. Rolled out elsewhere now but deep dark Wales was the initial test for UK.
