I’m going to the opening air show today. Forecast is excellent. Anyone else going?

I'm just back from Old Warden, when it's like it was today there really is no better airshow location

I missed the opener this year but will be going later in the season. What a fab day for it.

It's a wonderfully relaxed and atmospheric venue, and like you say when the sun is shining there are few better places to look at old planes.

On the days when the weather is still enough for them to fly the Edwardians in the early evening, it's like stepping back in time. Magic.

I didn't attend, but being local, and being out and about yesterday afternoon I did pull up at the side of the road and watch a couple of the display slots (the collection's Spit, followed by the Mustang).

My friend Scott was flying the Lysander.

Technically a R4-D (hence the Ready 4 Duty naming) rather than a C-47, and its the only remaining airworthy R4-D, which belongs to the Commemorative Airforce in Texas, and has made the long journey over from the USA for the VE-Day celebrations here and in Europe.

Assuming the weather holds (!), is the Military Day at the end of the month a good 'show?

...I'm well overdue a trip there, that looked like a good option.

Technically, they were known as R4Ds in US Navy service - until 1962 when the Navy designation system was abandoned.
