It was on landing, not TO.

Apparently (and I mean according to PPrune) similar to other accidents with the same aircraft type.

My Gaff, dunno why i had assumed it was takeoff ...

News just said that it was from China and landing in strong crosswinds.

As above, dosen't look to be engine related. I certainly hope it isn't; FedEx are our largest engine overhaul customer. All the engines on that plane will probably have been through our shop.

No news of the crew yet, hope they have made it out.

Big planes.

MD-11 according to bbc news. It's pretty much an upgrade of the dc-10.

As I said on the other thread on this subject (why two?), DC-10/MD-11s seem to have a habit of rolling over and burning in heavy landing incidents..

Cemetary in Butte, Montana. Very sad for the families of the victims. I think that is where Evel Knievel is buried.

I understand the number of fatalities quoted in the Montana incident is more than the plane involved is actually permitted to carry. Anyone got any more info on that or is it Internet hearsay?
