Don't think he'll get away with either 'Power gives way to Sail' or the solent classic 'We're racing!'

That yacht skipper is going to get a reaming from HM coastguard I would think. He is in clear breach of col-regs and local byelaws.

as a WAFI myself, that yacht skipper is a muppet.

First rule of thumb, if it is that much bigger than you, just keep out of it's way!!!

Restricted in ability to maneuver, constraint by draft and no doubt correctly navigating a marked shipping channel!

That could have ended much nastier for the yacht ... wonder what his insurance company will say to that one....

Just had a look at the chart for that area. It's clearly marked as a precautionary area:

chart said:
PRECAUTIONARY AREA All vessels over 150 metres in length navigating in the Precautionary Area will be given a MOVING PROHIBITED ZONE of 1000 metres ahead and 100 metres to either side. Vessels under 20 metres in length will be prohibited from entering this ZONE. See Admiralty Sailing Directions for details.

This year's Cowes Torquay powerboat race have been refused a start in the Solent and have to start at Hurst. Pillocks like that give the HM good reason to just refuse any form of racing in the Solent.

I'm desperately hoping to hear that 5 minutes earlier the yacht had a huge broach somehow jamming the kite halyard and damaging the steering. Sadly, I don't think that's gonna happen and we are witnessing muppetry of colossal proportions...

Back in the day as a sea scout one of our boats did the same thing with a car ferry when an ill advised move across its bow becalmed them. I was crew on the rescue boat, we motored in and dragged them out of harms way, getting our photos in yachting weekly in the process.
