Just booked a Class 1 medical
Discussion
So I have been toying with the idea of taking the flying further (so to speak) for some time now, and have decided to put my money where my mouth is and go in for my initial Class 1 - after all, if I fail that, I may as well give up any thoughts of commercial flying right away.
Just wondering if any of those of you who have had them done can offer any advice or tips? I know it's a medical exam, so not exactly something you can practice or revise for in advance - if my body isn't up to spec, it's not up to spec! - but thought I'd ask in case there is anything that I could or should work on in the meantime to improve my chances?
TIA.

It's ok tbh, they stopped the drop and cough ,you can take that as a good or bad thing depending on your circumstances. Also stopped making you strip and wear the white bath robe a while ago, definitely sit down for the spirometry I nearly passed out, loved the testing for the blind spot on ur eyes, it's like a computer game, shoot when you see the green dot.
The hearing test is where I thought I would struggle but wasn't bad at all, sit in the cubicle press the button when u hear a noise, eerily quiet in there though.
Cross your fingers and hope the ticker is ok and they usually issue the licence on the spot.
As u say nothing u can practice, maybe clean the diet up the week before and reduce the coffee, have a good breakfast and try to relax.
Oh just remember, they really do want you to pass.
I turned up hungover and full of caffeine and passed with flying colours but hey ho.
ETA
the prostate test, try just relax and go to that happy place

Dont nearly have a car crash on the way 'cos you're late then stopand have 3 cigarettes and a can of monster before running up 5 flights of stairs 'cos the lift is out of order and then, when you arrive in the Doctors office in Knightsbridge, be ushered straight in to do blood pressures.
This guy managed it....somehow - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-2877...
Just as a quick update to this thread, I have now had confirmation that I have passed the Class 1
Unfortunately they couldn't issue it on the day as something needed to be checked into further, but it came up before on my Class 2 so I wasn't overly worried and have now had a phone call from the CAA to let me know the certificate is in the post.
So, green light for commercial training it seems - oh how the o/h is going to be happy about that!

I had...
- Eyesight tests, both by an optometrist and the nurse, including peripheral vision and colour vision tests
- ECG
- Spirometry (lung function)
- Audiogram (hearing)
- Urine sample (can't remember what for - kidney/liver function I guess?)
- Blood tests (haemoglobin and cholesterol)
- And a physical examination by a doctor (thankfully not including a finger up the bum).
