Where would be a good place to go and look around for bits of old trains and planes? Nothing "huge" as I can't quite justify storing a Trent in the living room, but smaller parts can be made into interesting furniture/fixtures etc (I despair at using the term "upcycling" but that's what other people might use)

I expect there are some dealers out there where I could go and wander around and see what they have?

eBay, search 'aircraft parts'.

As a soon to retire BR driver I've a collection of drivers loco manuals both from the 60's and 80's. These are readily seen on fleabay at reasonable prices, may not what you had in mind though. The 60's publications I have were published by AEI Sulzer and English Electric with black and white photos as well as diagrammes. The BR issue ones are fairly plan.
