Good god the 90s have returned! I'm on a Virgin train with slam doors. I thought they went out with the ark! The whole thing smells of stale piss and lerches about so much it's hard to type!

I'd demand a refund....if it wasn't a cheap ticket!

I hadn't appreciated just how good the new stuff was over this. I remember thinking this was good 15 years ago. And I thought the line had been improved as well. It appears the new trains deal with the lumps and bumps much better. And smell less like a public urinal.

Still it could be worse. I could be walking. wink

Interestingly enough (?) there is talk of the Irish Rail MK3's being brought back to work over here. They'd need re-gauging and extensive internal refurbishment (interior and electrics) but apparently there is a strong business case for it.

Additionally, the HST and loco hauled MK3's are quite different (with regards to electrics etc) and cannot be intermixed. Cross County and Grand Central performed major refurbishment including reportedly replacement of all electrical systems in the MK3's they converted from loco hauled to HST.

It's really nice to see the rakes of blue and grey MK2's and 3's nowadays.
The one I was in appeared to be standard Black/red Virgin colours on the outside. And someone had been through and fitted 24v plug sockets under every table. A lot of the rest of the inside was very blue though.

Well I didn't post this before because...well it's not a great photo. But here's an internal shot from Wednesday.

I've no idea who that man is by the way. But the phone decided to focus on him.

I don't know how you try to glorify it, but lets be frank, Pendos are abysmal.

Talk about cramped inside.
Talk about lack of tables
Talk about crap seats and rotten trays
Talk about the smell of excrement
Talk about far too many FC carriages
Talk about those annoying doors with no sensors in vestibules
Talk about the rancid rancid travelling environment
Talk about lack of seats with windows - don't go on about strength of carriages needed as Europe has proved you can have strong carriages with nice seats that align with windows
Talk about running Voyagers out of Euston that is on a route that is ALL under the wires - Stock shortages are not a valid answer as more should've been ordered (Maybe the DFT's fault?!).

By the way, this isn't a personal dig at you either it's not your fault!

P.S, I assume you are the same 'neilb' as on the WNXX forum?
Less tables. But bigger. In the MK3 set it appears I was on, my laptop basically took up 1/2 a table designed for 4 people. What if 4 people had laptops!
Seats in the Pendo are far far superior to the stuff I was sat on. No support. Springs in uncomfortable places. Backache experienced. Give me the modern seats please!

The rest of what you mention is just not an issue. No window...so what? Smell in the vestibule? Don't sit in the vestibule (and it's better than the entire thing smelling vaguely of piss). Never had a problem with the doors. Just touch the pad and they open.

Plus the new stuff doesn't bounce around like a bouncy castle. They may not be perfect. But they are much better.
