Decent white wine for a tenner? (Better than Daybreak SB)
Discussion
Inspired by the similarly titled red wine thread. I drink red but like a nice cold glass of white when it’s warm; frankly I know even less about this than I do red. I’ve only alluded to Daybreak as it’s on the go at the moment, I don’t think it will reappear. Are the whites from the red makers I like such as Casillero Diablo worth a punt? What’s everyone’s go to?
I don't like white wines which are too sweet, so I bought one of these last week too try and it was very refreshing.

The Italian white wines at Tesco are an absolute bargain at around £6 a bottle. Stunning value.

I really like the Casillero Diablo Savingon Blanc. It's very light and goes down easily, has a slightly acidic taste but not too strong. It's quite often on offer in Tesco as well for 6 quid if you have a club card. This is delicious and crisp without being too acidic/tart, and fantastic with seafood. Also great just to drink sitting in the sun.

This is also a sensational solo drinker.

If you can't buy these exact bottles, I'd recommend looking for these styles of wine if you wanted to broaden your horizons a little.

I find New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough to very reliable and decent value
It's a very acquired taste (not everyone like white that slaps them in the face with passionfruit and gooseberry), and some of the cheaper stuff really lacks the subtlety of a half-decent French white.Having said that, it's a very easy way to get rat-arsed sitting in the sun.

If you like your whites dry and tart/citrussy, you won't go far wrong with a half-decent Gruner Veltliner.https://atimeforwine.blog/2020/06/02/gruner-veltli...

I'm more of a rose fan when it's warm. Currently got a bottle of Maison Castel on the go, bought on offer from Waitrose. And also like Esprit de Buganay. And TBH Vina Sol rose is perfectly acceptable to this peasant. ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
When you say a bottle on the go are you referring to actually drinking a bottle of wine in more than one evening?![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
