It's just powerful. It's never given me any hallucinations or whatever.

when you go to bed, you may wake up drunk, but it does mean you don't get a hangover

Only had it once!

It didn't see that bad at first, but in the taxi on the way in to town, it really hit us. We didn't make it in to town laugh

It wasn't just the 1 shot of Absinthe that made us that bad, though!

I've heard in Europe is the place to get the "proper" stuff!

I've got a bottle in the cupboard

Most nights out usually invlolves a shot or two or the stuff, its nowhere near as bad as people make out, it gets you in a good shape before heading into the town. I prefer a bowl of vodka jelly though smile

The hallucination thing is a bit of a myth, theres little scientific evidence, and its not to do with the wormwood. I think the current conclusion is that Absinthe in the 19th and 20th century had all sorts of random chemicals to give it the green colour, and these caused the halucinations.

I set fire to my hand, my jeans, the coffee table and the carpet when trying to stir in the caramelised flaming sugar into the glass. yikes

No trippy experiences with it, but it is a strange drunk feeling ! rotate

it is horrid stuff, especially that cheap weird "absinthe" you get from spain. it burns and the taste is fowl! my friend got completely destroyed on it at new years and made himself look like an arse

Last time I drank absinthe, in quantities, I stumbled into an underpass in Brighton where there were two hippies with bongos and another instrument.
I threw (literally) coins at them and demanded they played music so I could dance, which they did for some time.
I would have gotten away with it but my missus was there and her attempts to curtail my behaviour were always going to be futile.

Hhmm

Did anyone create the louche effect before drinking or did you just consume like other spirits?

Has someone been watching Heston's Victorian Feast?

We had a bottle but eventually chucked it out after deciding it was a bit too lethal, also folk generally seemed to want a shot of it when they were already drunk ... bad mix!

Left a bar on a thursday night after a few pints, went with my hosuemate to this random foreign blokes flat up the hill...

Got to his flat, it was a basement place, and it was fooking weird, some rooms were normal some were like they were un modified cellars.. like caves in a flat..

So he bought some drinks and a pack of smokes through and we started to get on it.. About an hour later, he bought through some absynth.. We had some shots of it, and that's all I remember I woke up the next day at 4pm in one of those un-developed cellar rooms.. My housemate had gone out to be sick and fallen asleep in some shrubs..

I was very close to being fired that day.

From Hell.

The idea is that a sugar cube is placed upon a straining spoon, whilst ice cold water is slowly dripped over the sugar. Absinthe goes a cloudy colour similar to Ouzo. You then sip.

Any i have ever had it has resulted in me not remembering much afterwards, just slight flashbacks of falling in bushes and getting very lost.

I very much doubt id try it again.

I've never tried it but after Heston's thing on telly I quite fancy trying it.
