My current stock at home is The Kraken if I fancy a spiced rum or Wray & Nephew Overproof if I fancy a 'blow your socks off' white rum!
However, I was out at the weekend and when the bar I was drinking in didn't have any familiar bottles I asked the bartender who recommended this
Delicious with a splash of full sugar coke (proper stuff from a glass bottle!), lots of ice and a wedge of lime :-)

Recently motored through a bottle of Mount Gay XO. Very, very nice.
For my b-day in May the wife got me a bottle of Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva and my dad got me a bottle of Pusser's.
Diplomatico is lovely stuff but much sweeter than the Mount Gay style of rum, and so I tend to only have one glass. The Pusser's is less sweet but 100% proof so you only need one glass!
Also ordered 5 drams from Master of Malt.
Appleton Estate 12yo
Angostura 1824 12yo
Chairman’s Reserve The Forgotten Casks
English Harbour 5yo
Goslings Family Reserve
Tried the first 3. Chairman’s Reserve is alright but pretty forgettable to be honest. The Appleton is nice – bit like the Mount Gay XO I had but smoother and creamier – more like a Sunday night rum! Angostura was absolutely superb. Not quite as good as the Mount Gay XO but running it very, very close. Had the same TCP-like nose to it and smokiness that the Ardbeg 10yo Islay has, but lovely fruitiness that the Mount Gay has.
Am saving the English Harbour and Goslings for next w/e.

The owner of Santa Teresa used to keep his Sportfishing boat next to mine and we used to fish together quite often. He brought some of his family's really old rum down to the marina for us to taste. Wow, now that's smooth.
My wife went to School with their children when she lived in Venezuela but she was a bit too young for testing the rum. Pretty sure her parents got some. Currently got a bottle of El Dorado 15 on the go. Very, very nice indeed. Also just secured a bottle of Ron Zacapa 23yo for £39 on Amazon Black Friday deals. Looking forward to trying that over Christmas.
My continued favourite though is Mount Gay XO. VFM it's the best I've found yet, by far.

Glad this thread has popped up again! My evening glug whilst losing money on internet poker is rum & coke, and my drug of choice is a bog standard Appleton Estate Special.
However, an offie nearby has started selling something called Gosling's Black Seal.
I'm intrigued and was wondering if anyone has tried it. The only dark rum I really like with coke is Wood's, although I will tolerate Lamb's.
TIA!

If this tells you anything - Black Seal is what got me into Rum. Lovely stuff, and the original rum for a dark n stormy. However, an offie nearby has started selling something called Gosling's Black Seal.

Diplomatico is alright, but to me it seemed incredibly sweet. Almost as though it's sweetened. That's what I like about the Mount Gay XO - it just seems a lot more pure of flavour.
Angostura 1824 is similarly awesome but a lot more pricey.
I had the Mount Gay XO neat with lime and some sugar (how the bartender recommended) in a bar a few weeks back and it was excellent.Angostura 1824 is similarly awesome but a lot more pricey.
Got a bottle of the El Dorado 8 from Aldi yesterday, decent at £20.
