gumtree - free, slightly less strange creatures than fb marketplace but the search term has to be bang on for people to find it so make sure to be descriptive in your title. (eta still some scam replies but less than fb)Facebook Market Place - some strange creature inhabit that place

Well it looks like my Tefal Actifry is finally packing up, there is a loud knocking/banging noise I assume from the motor turning the paddle with almost a kg of chicken wings nearly every week since January 2016 when I bought it.
Not sure whether to go for the same style again with the paddle or something with a draw like this for only £69 as its on offer

Out Actifry has always made those noises if the rotating bit gets a bit stuck, but then we've never stuck a kilo of anything in it Not sure whether to go for the same style again with the paddle or something with a draw like this for only £69 as its on offer

From recent experience I'd say the tray style ones are great for meat and will probably be slightly better for chicken wings - but they're terrible for chips. Our tray one does oven chips, our Actifry does leaner deep fried chips.

All the parts are readily available if you want to repair it. I replaced just about everything on our Actifry over the last 12 years. Motors, top ring, handle etc. all very easy and fairly cheap. Not sure whether to go for the same style again with the paddle or something with a draw like this for only £69 as its on offer

It sounds more like the spindle / paddle has worn or sheared. Check the male and female part on the paddle and spindle to see if thats the cause. Otherwise the motor has gone, again 30 min job, they are just held in with a few screws.
One thing I've found with mine (Cosori) is that while chips etc are fine, more dense/thicker items are a bit over done on the outside but not always cooked/hot enough right through.
Do other people find this? Is this normal, an issue with my brand or an inadequate operator? I generally cook at oven temp for 60% of the time. Yes, have a meat thermometer now.

I tend to cook at around 10% lower temperature, for about 20% less time. Seems to work as a general rule of thumb for most thingsDo other people find this? Our gourmia air fryer has packed up! Any recommendations for a reasonably priced twin unit?
Ninja have an offer on the AF400 - it's cheaper than the smaller AF300:https://ninjakitchen.co.uk/ninja-catalog/ninja-air...

That must have been it. Never happened before in the seven years I have owned it. Lobbed another load (minus the wing tips no not quite a kg) of chicken wings in and it was all fineXcore said:

Graded, cheap as chips, and well-regarded unit (albeit not a Ninja). Several people on thread including myself have bought from the supplier.https://www.kettleandtoasterman.co.uk/product/towe...

Right.
Disclaimers:
1. Breasts were less than 200g. Pack was 250g in total and they were not evenly sized.
2. I followed the instructions above fairly blindly, and didn't apply any subjectivity.
Skin scored and bunged in a cold pan, began timing when they started to sizzle and gave them 7 minutes skin side down, then 20 seconds on each other side.
Into Ninja Max, on Roast at 200 for 5 minutes.
Larger breast was at 54°, smaller one at 58° Sat for 3-4 minutes under foil.
Results:
1. Skin wasn't crispy at all. Looked fantastic, was floppy and chewy. Went in bin.
2. Smaller breast was slightly overdone. Larger one had a strip of gristle through it. Wife compIained.
Conclusions:
1. Maybe should have air fried, not air roasted. Not convinced there's any difference, in reality, but Ninja didn't make skin crispy.
2. Or, should have kept in pan longer at a lower temperature.
3. Perhaps needed less time in the Ninja because they weighed less.
4. It turns out wife doesn't really like duck even though she bought it (!)
5. I've forgotten how to do decent roast potatoes in the oven (Ninja not big enough for both).
So thank you, Ham & Jam for the advice. I've not yet cooked much meat in the air fryer (tried fish and that was a disaster), and the duck wasn't a complete success, but at least it was edible, unlike the aforementioned fish.
So just to follow this up as it obviously didn’t come out as well as expected. Disclaimers:

I did a duck a l’orange today and meticulously followed my original instructions just to check they were correct.
Results were very good, duck was delicious and tender, with very crispy skin.
piccies attached-
In summary-
Leave duck breasts (200g each) to warm to near room temp. Score skin.
Render fat slowly in a frying pan from a cold pan (about 9 mins)
In a pre-warmed air fryer, air fry skin up for 5-6 mins
Rest for 5 mins before slicing to serve.
My only caveat is these were in a Ninja dual drawer AF400, so timings may be different in your air fryer.
