Any tips how to make battered things not become a big single lump?
Take the basket out and give it a shake every few/5min depending on cooking time.

Don’t crowd the products.

It was battered frozen fries- I tried to shake it 5 min in but the chips had started to cook so were soft and started to break up. Not sure if earlier would have been better. I left them for a bit longer and then broke up the big lump which sort of worked.

My missus did a gammon in ours last night. Pretty sure she just wrapped it in foil and chucked it in for 1hr 15mins. Was absolutely spot-on and i'll be doing it for Christmas instead of using the slow cooker.

I was trying to work out the best way to do a big (to feed nine) beef joint for this weekend in the ninja foodi 15-1.

Thought I could put it in on slow cook with the temp probe set to the perfect internal temp, then blast for 30 mins on a high air fry/roast setting to bring the outside up. Like an automatically monitored reverse sear.

Didn’t realise the built in probe won’t work on slow cooker setting.

Seems like a shame/oversight.

Apart from not being able to leave it on automatically, does my plan seem sound?

This year I asked Father Christmas for a new pair of golf shoes but something must have got lost in translation between here and the North Pole as he got me a Ninja AF400 instead.

I've used it quite a lot already for the following and really impressed:

Bacon
Sausages
Chips
Meatballs
Spicy chicken strips
Eggs (need a bit of experimentation here)

Yesterday I did a New Years Day roast and used it for a whole organic chicken (just fit), roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese. All of these came out really well.

Very quick compared with the oven and I've not bothered pre-heating it yet. Just put the food in and turn on.

Need to get some of the liners for it but I think it will be in use quite a bit. The wife and I get Gousto meals for 5 days a week but a lot of these can be cooked in it too.

With the money saved by not using the oven all the time I'm hoping to buy some new golf shoes. biggrin

We got this beast!

The real bonus is that it comes with both two small drawers and one giant one.

Did all of our roast veg yesterday, chickened out on doing the beef joint.

I got the Ninja with the large basket that can be split into 2 smaller ones with different temperatures/timings on either side. This replaces our old Tefal Actifry that we had had for 12 years. The Ninja is a huge step up, the extra size opens up the capability to cook a full chicken in one go and the draws are so much easier to clean, the base trays come out and wash down really quickly and the basked itself wipes clean with kitchen roll.

At Christmas we did sausage rolls with premade pastry and butchers sausage, glazed the gammon, pigs in blankets and finished off a few roasties as well.

I want to expand our repetoir to include more complete meals like rice dishes or tray bake type stuff.

Evening air fryer-ers. Anyone done homemade falafel in the air fryer?

If so, any good? Or do they end up like the ground up cardboard balls that you buy from the supermarket?

Had some proper falafel from a Lebanese cafe and they were absolutely superb. Would like to replicate for home but don't fancy deep frying.

Should be fine. I have done pork stuffing balls this Christmas in the air fryer. Nice crisp outside with a soft middle.
You could maybe set the airfryer to roast the falafel rather than air fry if you have the different settings.

I’m a bit of an air fryer evangelist, but a steak is the one thing that doesn’t get near it.

Just picked up a cheap-ish Air Fryer from Amazon (Cosori) and it's brilliant

This week we've done

Southern 'fried' Chicken
Jacket Potato
Panko breaded Chicken

All of them really good, just taking some time getting used to cooking times etc.

Brilliant thing!

Anyone use silicon cooking baskets in their air fryer
I use them if what I'm cooking is especially messy or liable to be difficult to get out when it's hot. They work well.

Don’t buy cheap ones like I did. They taint the food with a plasticky smell.

Mine did the same the first time I used them, after that they were fine.

Agree. Mine were cheapies from AliExpress and have been perfect. Certainly no taint.

I thought the point of the removeable trays in the basket (I have a Ninja) was so that the hot air can circulate al round the food. Surely the silicon inserts will stop this?
