Burgers & fries prices

It does seem that we're going to have to get used to paying much higher prices here for stuff that's not particularly expensive in the US, i guess for the experience of something that isn't McDonald's or BK. I don't expect Wendy's to be any different. I'm waiting for in'n'out next.
Rents lower in the states, electricity is 50% cheaper in the States. A typical maccers will use 700k kw/h per annum. Ingredients cheaper. Min wage is lower in States. No surprise really. kev1974 said:
Wendy's to give the UK another go, maybe

The article doesn't seem to mention it but they were definitely in the UK some years ago, I used to regularly go and enjoy their square burgers and bowls of chili, and I remember they had salt and pepper pots on each table. Maybe they were only in London, I don't know. The weird triangular McDonalds at the bottom of Shaftesbury Avenue definitely used to be Wendy's, and they had a shop on Oxford St as well, just opposite where BhS was, I think that one turned into McDonalds as well.
I used to LOVE Wendy's. My first proper job in 1985 was located in Covent Garden and I used to get 15p a day in luncheon vouchers. Every payday I would go to the Wendy's on the Strand and spend a whole month's worth on burger and chilli. A 5 week month was extra special.https://www.mirror.co.uk/money/american-burger-cha...

These days I prefer Patti and Bun, but I'd go back to a 1985 style Wendy's in a heartbeat.

Country Burger wasn’t bad...
Back from a trip to the west coast, been posted before but In and Out are brilliant. If there is ever an example of how to run a fast food place this is it. Burgers, chips, and soft drinks and that's about it.
A 3 x 3 is $5.20 and a 4 x 4 $6.40 and a single cheeseburger $2.85
They were advertising for staff at the time $13 per hour, so they pay well and offer good food at a very reasonable price.

In and out is kinda legendary no? Id love to try one.
It is.They haven't expanded much though, and I don't think they're planning to.

To be honest I don't think they are anything that special. They do very well cultivating and trading off an image, and they do seem like a good company when it comes to their staff etc.
If you ate their food and you didn't know where it was from I am not sure they would be all that amazingly well regarded.
But that is probably true of a great many restaurants.

The reason is, nothing they serve is frozen. It's all fresh and each store must be within a certain radius of their distribution network. It's a family owned business. I get why you'd stop expanding after a certain point. I think they have 300 or so outlets. Big enough.
Kind of.They have 1 location in LA proper. If they wanted to, they could open more within their existing radius, but they don't want to, because having many locations would undermine their model.
They want to be (somewhat) exclusive.

And I got st for saying Five Guys should never have expanded outside of London. They have 1 location in LA proper. If they wanted to, they could open more within their existing radius, but they don't want to, because having many locations would undermine their model.

Paying well. West Coast. $13 per hour don't belong in the same sentence FYI
Indeed, min wage is $12 a hour in California.gregs656 said:

If you are comparing them to all burgers everywhere, you could be right but I think for the cost and cooked to order you can't do better, well not that I've found. If you ate their food and you didn't know where it was from I am not sure they would be all that amazingly well regarded.

I once flew to LA to check out the hype, I was disappointed. Thin patties similar to McDonalds, far too much salad, awful tasteless chips and animal sauce is basically burger sauce. Massively overrated. I've always said, value for money for me is the most important thing, be it £100+ per person star restaurant or a greasy spoon. Hence why I'd happily admit going to Spoons for a bite to eat or using a taste card.

Everyone's taste is different (thankfully) but out of interest, in the say $4-$6 range, which place would you say did a better burger? Or would you just not eat in cheap places and pay $10 for 5 guys for example?

That's a good point, I forgot how cheap they are. VFM they are decent, but they don't compare to Bleecker/Honest/B&B.I've always said, value for money for me is the most important thing, be it £100+ per person star restaurant or a greasy spoon.
