I heard someone claim their whisky was Dalmore.

Dalmore selling a 29 year old for 39.99 - no a fking chance hehe
Could be if it's casks they consider to be below par and don't want to tarnish their name.
They definitely bottle some for the Co-Op at about £23/bottle, so it's possible to get hold of Pseudo Dalmore at a reasonable price.

This was on offer in Tesco and athough I've been left slightly underwhelmed by Highland Park 12 and Dark Origins whisky I thought I'd give it a try as I like smokey/peated whisky.
Will be sampled this weekend...

Had the 29 year old Aldi whisky last night. Nice. Good whisky for £40, very easy to drink, very subtle flavours as you'd expect. Reminded me a little of Aberfeldy.

Apparently Lidl have a 22 year old Islay for £40 too....

Looking at the value of it though I reckon I might sell on the Macallan. Has anyone tried the online whisky auctions? Few bottles like mine have been through in the last couple of months.
I've been thinking about online auctions- I have one of the very few remaining bottles of Gordon's Cask Arran but doubt I have a sufficiently discerning palate to do it full justice.

I was surprised when I did the Bruichladdich warehouse tasting last year - the Port Charlotte we were allowed to sampled was actually much peatier than the Octomore we had. In fact over the whole time we spent on Islay we found the PPM count was not always indicative of how peaty a whisky would be.

I bought a bottle of that this morning. Along with Jura (Superstition I think), Bowmore and decided to give the Tesco Finest single malt a go at £20 a bottle. Not sure what that will be like, but I'll have a try of it tonight (and I might wash it down with the Highland Park since it would be rude not to try that too).

ETA: Tried the Tesco whisky. Only had a small glass but so far totally unimpressed. Tastes of alcohol and nothing else. Maybe it will grow on me but even at £20 a bottle I'm regretting it.

On the other hand - have a glass of the Highland Park next to me. Only had one mouthful so far, but my word I like that a lot!

Picked up a bottle of JW Blue for my Dad for Christmas at Costco. £99 and seems like the sort of thing he should have in his collection. Plus it's "Nice" as a safe gift.

Also grabbed a few bottles of Togouchui. £30 so seems worth a punt!

Anyone have thoughts on either?

Was about to post similar ... it's 98.99 at Amazon for the next few hours if you can't get to a shop.

Opened my St Andy's day dram last night - Glenallachie Distillery Ed. £18 currently on sale in Morrisons. As Speysidey as they come in a young, un-messed about style. Very sippable to my taste, sweet, vanilla and toffee.
