Looks like the Monkey Shoulder is the unwanted ginger stepchild of the collection!
Ah yes...an empty bottle c/w cage that I now use for bramble liqueur...there are a couple of Kilner jars on the go out of shot at present that will be going into the MS bottle in January or so (a litre of Famous Grouse for £18 in ASDA a while back plus a load of blackberries and sugar...gets a good shake every day and will be strained off after 3 months before the fruit goes "woody")Gribs said:

Which Loch Fyne do you have?
It's the 1745 living cask from March this year. It's very good.I only ended up with 1 bottle this time due to the crazy prices. Somewhat regretting it now though, Glengoyne 21 single cask. The single casks have gone crazy generally, so this was relatively(?!) ok compared to many now. That said, I was bidding on a 1973 Ledaig which was almost 1/2 of the price of last month, but even so I was not going to go higher.
Finished a 1984 Royal Brackla 12yo tonight. Not that great, but it was practically given away free compared to many bottles these days in a previous auction, so took a chance!

Some people have been out in the market pushing whisky as outperforming many other types of investments. That may be part of the reason. Also with the weaker £ it makes it more attractive for other countries.
And to be honest, I think people are "panicking" about being left behind. Previously it was old legendary bottles that went for crazy prices. That then put pressure on the decent old bottles, which have moved a lot in recent years. It seems that now it's pulling up anything old (both age and bottled many years ago). Pretty much any single cask with 90 points+ on WB that is from a reasonably collectible distillery will now give little change from £300. There's stuff that is poor from reviews going for over £100 just because it's an old bottle from the past. IMO that might indicate it's less about drinking and more about investment/ collecting driving the current prices. Or people are desperate as they've been priced out of anything else.

Picked up these two at the NEC Good Food Show last week. The Quiet Man is the first Irish single malt I've ever bought, and to my taste at least, it's a very fine thing. The show was excellent too, so many samples of whisky/whiskey/gin/beer/cider to try, it was a shame I had to drive!
