I got the Hario MSS-1 for my v60 drinking.
Watching Hoffman's v60 vids, I'm seeing/getting the results he said I should be looking for, with a consistent grind size and adjusted to one click before the 'bitterness wall'.
Ended up going with this, the Hario MSS-1. First go this evening and perfectly happy with the result. Much more enjoyable than what I’ve been conjuring up with the Nespresso pods. Will go back and forth with it over the next while to experiment with beans/grind/volume and see how I get on. Thanks all for the replies even if I blatantly ignored some and cherry picked some others to follow up on!

How many clicks back from closed/burrs fully touching do you guys find works best for a V60?
Wow wow wowzers! A lot further back! Take an hour watching YouTube vids. I’d start with Hoffman. Grind 16g of beans to a medium coarseness. Essentially what you would have if you bought grounds from a supermarket.
Boil 300g/ml of water. 1g=1ml.
Heat the v60, filter and and cup with 50g of water.
Throw away water. Put grounds in filter. Make a little well. Tare scales.
Pour in 50g of water. Gently agitate the grounds with a spoon. Wait 30 seconds.
Pour in 100ml water. Gently spin.
Pour in 100ml water. Gently spin. This should now total 250g. Let it draw down.
Stir the coffee and drink!
Essentially from the first drop of water going into the filter, to the last dripping out, should time around 2m30. If it’s too quick then finer grounds. Too slow, coarser grounds.
But more importantly don’t let it be a faff. Enjoy the process.
I can recommend these beans. I have got through kg’s trying to find what I like.

Picked up a cheap 1L cafetiere to use in the office but I’m getting through my 250g bag of decent coffee from a local roaster at a quick rate since I make 4 mugs worth at a time for myself and 3 colleagues.
Thinking of firing up the Barvilor Novo filter machine that I have sat here gathering dust. Any recommendations for reasonably priced filter coffee? At £7 per 250g bag my go to stuff would end up costing way too much. I guess I could always just get some Taylors Lazy Sunday as a cheap all day brew. The basic Costco stuff I used pre covid was passable at best, far too dark for regular use

It's all going to be similar unfortunately.Thinking of firing up the Barvilor Novo filter machine that I have sat here gathering dust. Any recommendations for reasonably priced filter coffee? Starbucks Blonde and Taylors Lazy Sunday are supermarket's small steps into the light roast, but they are still burnt.
Try the Taylors, but I imagine it will be similar to the Costco stuff. Passable but not particularly enjoyable once you're used to the stuff from your local roaster.
Better than instant though, so if it's that or Nescafe, I'd give it a go.

Lazy Sunday in a cafetière was my introduction to non instant coffee. Granted that was around 8 years ago and since then I’ve moved onto an Aeropress and a moka pot. Still not used a Chemex that I was kindly gifted a few years ago via PHSS. Starbucks Blonde and Taylors Lazy Sunday are supermarket's small steps into the light roast, but they are still burnt.

The Costco stuff is really really dark - https://www.costco.co.uk/Business-Office-Supplies/... but it’s cheap. Taylors ground coffee is usually £6 for 2 bags so worth a try I guess. Can save the good stuff to have at home in the moka
I've found lazy Sunday to be the best supermarket stuff. I quite like it.
I often buy it for the B2C as I find expensive beans are a bit of a waste as it doesn't extract many flavours really, you just get a half decent cup of coffee which is better than stuff out a jar.
Lazy Sunday has a slight nuttiness to it which I like, and doesn't really taste burnt.

New grinder coming soon from Weber Workshops. I might upgrade my HG-1 to the KEY. The previous powered grinder from WW was too big for domestic use but this looks like it will fit on a kitchen worktop no problem.

JX grinder received yesterday. Blown away by it. Awesome!
Interesting why go hand grinder, tempted to Sette 30 after I upgrade my Flair Neo as my Wilfa isnt good enough for espresso but good enough for the flair. How much an effort is manual grinding, like the idea as having 2 machine is tad over the top and manual look similar to pepper grinder and not too big.Baron Greenback said:

I have the JX Pro and made a coffee a few moments ago - 18g of (not overly fresh and probably over roasted) beans ground in about 36-40 seconds (handle turning time) so about 2 seconds per gram. No point timing the whole process as whatever system you use, you've still got to weigh, put in machine, put into basket etc etc, so it's only grinding time that is really relevant.
Ta that's not too long RobbieTheTruth said:

Why do all the supermarkets sell burnt coffee.
Surely the big supermarkets and coffee companies don't have tasters and roasters that don't know what they are doing.
