I don't think steves sweet shop desert platter deserved the criticism it got. I thought it was original and very well presented.

As for dizzy bint, that fish dish she made as her sig dish looked garbage.

For Steve's sweet shop, I think they knocked it down to even up the competition, and for the same reason they talk up Marry Anne's food.

It appears that she more often than not, 'assembles' some ingredients, rather than cooking, as most of her starters are a variation of salads. Same for her fish last night, there was no cooking process in it.

Well, she hasn't cooked any red meat right yet.... Some of what she is done is good, but she is not as rounded as the blokes, who said they never do deserts, but are now producing some amazing things.

I do think they (Masterchef) put her through to keep the housewife viewing population happy, and they don't get lynched on the BBC Food Message board for being sexist. biggrin

I like Steve for his creativity, but I think Daniel is just heading it at the moment

I think that after the semi final stage and Steve's smoked starter that he was so far ahead of the other 2 that they have deliberately gone after him to make for a closer competition and better TV.

Weak on pastry - so complete pastry challenge and Marie Anne gets very little difficult cooking in it
Weak on pastry part 2 - starter has a pastry element in it

Is it just me or were they trying to level the playing field? How much weight do they put on the challenges and how much on the cooking in the studio?

Masterchef timings: has anyone, ever, at any venue, had a chef come out and apologise that the starter/desert will be 10 minutes late?
For that matter has anyone ever been to a restaurant and demanded that the starter is on the table at exactly 1930 hours?

The fillet of beef used for the tartare looks lovely, nice and purple!

But, praising a poached egg? It's pretty easy to get right!

What is the bet that the recipe didn't have a whole bottle of rum in it, and that is why it didn't set?

Absolutely, well done that man.

Clearly the most inventive, talented chef out of them all. Also seemed like the most down to earth and the nicest one of the bunch too.

Some of his food, especially that scotch quails egg looked sensational.
