Don’t agree with only selling 1/3 of a pint though.
That is weird, when you'd usually buy it 330ml bottles/cans, which is a bit over half a pint.

Mind you, having tried thier Tactical Thermonuclear Penguin some years ago I'm glad they sell that in small quantities. It's the kind of thing you want to try but, I can't believe anyone would want to actually drink a class of the crap. biggrin

1/3 pint is the standard measure for beers of that strength on tap. All craft beer bars would be serving those beers as a 1/3.

Tactical Nuclear Penguin is 32% ABV. Nobody is buying a pint of it. It is a good beer.

I believe their serving size is mainly to try to keep all the drinks a similar price on the menu, rather than any puritanical desire to keep consumption down.

Makes sense. I'm guessing that advertising beer at around £18 a pint is not a good look!

Yes I think it was 100mls or something. Utter disgusting stuff. Bought 2 bottles - threw one away after 1 sip and gave the other 1 away.

Years ago the bars sold Tactical Nuclear Penguin and Sink the Bismarck in 25ml measures. The last time TNP was sold it was in 110ml bottles.

At 32% and 41% alcohol it was never going to taste like a beer. TNP was a good beer of the style.

ironically it did taste like beer but like a super concentrated version as it had the water frozen out of it? or something like that.

Buying beer in 1/3 pints always reminds me of getting Roger And Out at the Frog & Parrot in Sheffield - I think that was about 13.5% - three of those and you knew about it biggrin

Yeah, I tried it in an American beer bar in Amsterdam (the obvious place to find a Scottish beer biggrin), and it came in something closer to a shot size than a beer glass. Glad I hadn't bought a bottle of it, it was horrible. I love strong trappists and barley wines but TNP was not to my taste at all. Never bothered to try Sink the Bismark or any of the other similar stupid strength ones, but presumably they do have different flavours and some might be worth a try,

I just got back from the states and Canada and was part of the trip was to St. Louis and I was there for a brewery called "Side Project" tenth anniversary specifically. It was over four days and they released a new bottle every day, with crazy lines each day. It was a great weekend and lots of great beers shared with fellow beer geeks. They specialise in barrel aged beers and I'd only ever tasted their sours before, but love barrel aged stouts and barley wines and wanted to try them for a while. The beers are fantastic, even if you need to take out a second mortgage to buy them and ended up spending more than I had originally envisaged, but c'est la vie. Managed to bring a nice little haul back with me, now the hard part is not drinking them and aging them.

I may be addicted to Vocation Love and Hate. £3 in Sainsbury's. 4 for 3. More cans shall be purchased.

nice. Do beers travel well? Looks like you didn't get an explosions but that would be what I'd be concerned about!

I’ve sadly had to stop drinking La Chouffe because it messes me up so comprehensively. Lovely stuff but super punchy, and it was compromising my evenings, despite not drinking masses of it.

It depends on the type of beer, IPA's don't travel particularly well, especially if subjected to extreme falls and rises in temperature. The beers in the picture though are all barrel aged stouts, barley wines and a sour beer, so these are much better at travelling and not as susceptible to changes in temperature and perfect for aging if I can hold off from drinking them for long enough. They were packed very well, including wrapping in clothes, plus some bubble wraps. Bottles are usually pretty resilient, cans can be a problem and I've had them burst before on previous hauls, so now have a nice coffee chocolate smelling suitcase as a result of this.

Anyone used 4T’s Brewery https://www.4tsbrewery.co.uk/category/cans/page/2/
I had their Mango Fever at a beer festival recently and thinking of ordering a crate of 12 cans.
