What are they called?
A Chinese near my parents in Telford used to do them (or similar) years ago, possibly still do, they were tremendous.

Just known as "potato wedges" up this way, only ever seen the typical "McCain" wedges down south - was a bit surprised the first time I ordered potato wedges and got spicy roasties!

Found a proper dirty Chinese near me the other day I didn't even know was there.

Reminds me of the Chinese I would get as a teenager after a few scoops in the pub. I dread to think how they make it but its exactly as I remember. Not had anything like it in years. I suspect the oil content is rather high!!

Will get some pics next time. Its right near Burgerism for those local to me. You are taking your own life into your hands even getting out of the car but its worth the risk. biggrin

I'm quite partial to a Dominos but my local pizza shop does a 12' for £6.40 and £2.50 for side. Anytime I order Dominos, say a large and a few sides even with discount it's rarely under £20.

When it's that cheap, I suspect you probably shouldn't question what's going into it...

At £6.40 you should still be able to make a decent profit on that not using fake cheese etc

I make pizza at home (this from Monday)

That’s 14”, it costs me around 30-35p per pizza base (flour, water, salt, yeast) 45p for a decent mozzarella, 32p for a good pizza sauce (could make it cheaper with fresh ingredients) and then your toppings for pepperoni it’s probably about 40p.

So for a 14” pepperoni you’re looking around £1.50 in ingredients the rest being made up of overheads. £6.40 is not a bad price at all.

Although still partial to a papa John’s.

I suspect you're probably right, and it is possible.

But I reckon there are more greedy than honest takeaway owners out there.

But you're not paying rent, rates, bills and wages; and you don't need to make a profit. wink

He is also not buying in the ingredients at bulk cost so you can knock 1/3 off what he quoted. Places like pizza pilgrims make a clear profit selling pizzas at a tenner each at sit down venues in prime spots. The only reason dominos and the like are the price they are is so they can discount and do deals and walks ins and just fleece the super lazy at home wanting delivery without a deal

They're going to have to sell a lot of pizzas at a tenner to make a profit when paying West End rent/rates/service charges, which is why so many of these companies are going under.

They sell an awful lot of beer too I imagine and now have multiple outlets. Yes a lot of the "brand" places were opening sites on very marginal profits or even a slight loss carried by other sites but there is still no real reason you need to charge £20 for crap pizza.

Reminds me of the 241 pizza me and my mate used to have at the end of a night out, those were the days.

I'm sure it won't be long till I'll be reliving it.

I thought I would try something different to my usual kebab from Rusholme chippy . A friend of mine recommended Mazaa in Longsight. The picture below is of their Special Kebab and it was fantastic. Had a couple of other curries from there as well. If anyone in Manchester wants to try something different I would definitely recommend this place myself!
