Beast looks awesome. I think one of the party is anti shellfish, but what does he know
He doesn't have to eat the shellfish if he doesn't want to. Both the steak and crab arrive on big platters at the same time and you take what you want. We wanted more steak (even though they gave us two huge cuts already) and they happily went away to make us some more free of charge!pincher said:
Umm. Am I being daft - I can't actually see a menu?
No you're not!The menu is a set four courses that you share - that's starter, mains (crab and beef), and dessert. It's £75 a head, and the centre pieces are the Norwegian king crab and the Nebraskan bone-in rib-eye and bone-in sirloin. The starter is interesting, and you can find it with a little Googling, but I thought it was nice that we left it as a (slightly strange) surprise. The dessert is a kind of cheesecake thing.
As 22s says above, if you want more steak, just tell them and they will sort you out.
Not too much of a trek from the city

Had a great meal there but the cost was a surprise even taking into account the location etc.
I just checked out the menu, the average cost of a steak is nearly £74 Add a topping, some fries, a sauce and service and you're looking at nearly £100 per head for main course

When I say boys, I mean late 40s early 50s, obviously
Regular London meat-up for a group of 4 mates. Usually steak related and close to the City. We have done Goodman twice. New Street Grill. Several Hawksmoors. Bodeans. Relais De Venise. Tayyabs. Turkish. etc
So ideally meat. Lots of it, grilled. And limited salady-stuff. Bread and Chips are good.
Looking for recommendations otherwise it is Goodman again.

Not in the same league as Hawksmoor etc, but I've been to Efes (Great Titchfield St) a few times after a night on the juice. Meat sweats of the kebab variety. And significantly cheaper than Hawksmoor.
I've not been for a while, but I'd say it was as good as Tayyabs in its way.
Lahore Kebab House too (E1).
The steaks in the likes of Goodmans and Hawksmoor are really hard to ignore though.

Try The Big Easy in Covent Garden. Lots of meat, good booze, not stupidly expensive: http://bigeasy.co.uk
What's the deal with the limitless menu? Do they just keep slapping meat on your plate like some of those brazilian buffet places?marting said:
Done that, was pretty good if a little to hip for its own good.Eversleigh said:

Great meat experience !
Threadneedle Street. The guy that owns it used to run Gaucho, I believe, but fell out with them.

Annual boys' lunch there a couple of days ago. Impeccable service, fabulous wines and very decent dead cow in abundance. Recommended.

late to the party but i here good things about sophies. http://www.sophiessteakhouse.co.uk/
Also late to the party but having spent way too much time eating meat in the run up to Xmas, I was very pleasantly surprised by this place :
http://thebullsteakexpert.co.uk
Upstairs is lighter and 'on trend' whilst we sat downstairs and there was a distinct 'ex curry house' feel to it.
Service was impeccable and fun. Steaks were cracking and bargains in the wine list (relatively speaking obviously)
Having waved a flag for these guys, a table of boys would have to try really hard to beat the filet and tomahawk to share in Hawksmoor.....
What a hell of a dilemma
Good luck or how did it go?
