I think there is actually a guy on here who designs toasters. I seem to recall him recommending some of the own brand stuff from Asda as they are designed with large slices in mind.
Hello, that was me. Youre correct Asda toasters should all fit Warburtons size slices (tall) - although Ive just looked at their range and it appears this may not be the case for the diamond and steel range. It entirely depends on your budget:

George (Asda) £10-40
Breville Warburtons £40-60
Delonghi £70-100
Rangemaster £80-100
Dualit £130-200

My knowledge is starting to become a bit outdated now as havent done a big check in a while. My own toaster is a Morphy and doesnt take Warburtons, but it does look pretty good for a £30 toaster smile

On dualit, we just returned our long slot £120+ beast ... six settings , 1 is hardly toasted. 2 was burnt. Never tried 3 to 6.

Did I have a Friday afternoon one?

Also, it has warning notices on the top and plug about not toasting unattended... which seemed OTT

Sounds like a different model from mine - we’ve got a timer which I turn to about 1.5 for fresh bread, 1.75 for frozen, and a lever to lift the toast to check colour.
In 22 years I’ve replaced 2 elements and stripped it down once for a thorough clean when I’d stupidly been using it for potato waffles which are somewhat greasy.

Which Dualit? Personally I only recommend the Classic - built in Britain and extremely simple. The Architect and Lite are just run of the mill toasters.

Re: warnings, a little overzealous as you just require it in the instruction manual, there used to be EU legislation about the hot triangle but most toasters are able to avoid this now.

Yea the Lite is a run of the mill toaster made in China, from the same factory as Tesco, Delonghi and I think Argos. Probably costs around $15 for them to produce, nice little markup for them!

Dualit are hopeless. Maybe you can rebuild them so they last forever but they are rubbish at actual toasting.

The slots won't take a normal slice of bread, in 2 slot mode one side is burnt while the other side is warm. If it's in 4 slot mode it just turns everything into cinders.

Not my experience with a Dualit classic. Perfect toast every time

Anyone got a recommendation for a long slot toaster? I was just thinking of going lower end ... rather than paying £120 for a dualit to find out it was their budget offering.

My apologies Mr Monk. To be fair, your aforementioned post does contain links to 2 toasters one of which is a long slot. I would also observe that without clicking on both links no one would know that your day earlier post provided useful information in relation to mine.

Do you have the latter cookworks machine? Is it a mk1 Ford Focus of toasters? I’m genuinely after a recommendation because what I thought was merc w124 of toasters, the dualit, turned out to be poor.

More generally, you are right people don’t read all the posts ... I will make more effort!

Thanks, Austin.

I don't have a Dualit, or a Cookworks.

I own a Tesco toaster. £15 - excellent.

I get much of my information from Which? magazine reviews!!

Bought this one

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07BHGV9NL?ref=pp...

As coincidentally I was in dunelm today with a tape measure (!) and this one goes up and down deeper than the others . Some were pathetic they only gave a height of 10cm! Pathetic! with a length of 12cm. The one I bought has a lengtH of about 13cm and up down about 14-odd I think.

10x12 is the standard toaster carriage size. You have to think of all the countries in the world, very few have bread as large as ours. China and USA loaves are much smaller so toasters are designed for those markets. The bigger slots require a specially designed carriage that would only cater to a small population, and would need specific chassis to fit around the carriages. So all n all its quite rare to find the bigger slot toasters.

One of the reasons I previously mentioned Asda toasters is because an old buyer from there decided they wanted the toaster to fit Warburtons bread so designed one with a factory in China. After that my company and several others took on the idea!

I've been searching for a while for a 4 slice (side by side) toaster that will take Warburtons Toastie slices. can't believe it's so difficult to find one. I want side by side slots as I lay nan breads etc on the top.

I currently have a Breville 'Warburtons Approved' toaster for that very reason, but it's now on its last legs, and they don't seem to sell mine anymore, just the 2 slice version. It has a great feature enabling you to lift the toast out to check its progress, without turning off the heating.

Im going to make a template of a slice of 'Warbers' and search the shops like this guy did...
