what would happen if you froze a egg, then wrapped it in meat then cooked it?
Freeze a raw egg in its shell and then peel it? As far as I'm aware that's a complete nono

Ok, curiosity got the better of me. Egg in freezer at 11:30am. I'll boil it later and we'll see how it goes.

it is not a good idea to freeze eggs in the shell. The shells can crack and allow air to reach the frozen contents of the shell. This will not only negatively impact the taste of the eggs; it can also increase the possibility of the egg spoiling and becoming the ideal vehicle for food poisoning.

A friend is a chef.

Egg out of Fridge
Soft Boil the egg 3 mins
Peel then wrap in cling film and in freezer quickly
Part cook sausagemeat.
Roll out and reduce to room temp
Remove cling film and roll frozen egg in sausagemeat
Cover in breadcrumbs
Deepfry for 5-7 mins

I am yet to try this as I don't have a deep fat fryer.

I saw a program where someone completely dissolved an egg shell in vinegar, leaving the white and yolk inside the undamaged sack. It was part of an experiment to prove some unrelated issue, but it would seem like a good starting point for this project! yum

Update: Well, the shell cracked, so not great for long term storage. But it was fine for breakfast. I slightly overcooked it, but it was a pretty normal boiled egg. I think that with a bit of practice you could cook one from frozen and get a runny yolk.

Scotch eggs are ambrosia of the gods.yum My mum makes great scotch eggs.

Why would you want one with a runny yolk? One of the best things about them is the portability and low mess factor.
Quite possibly the most worstest tautology in the whole world ever. wink

Back on topic... any polaroids of said runny scotch eggs yet then?

It's the 'vogue' starter (apparently); a hot Scotch Egg, with the yolk still warm and runny.

It just strikes me that even if I could peel a barely boiled egg; I'd crush it trying to wrap (and seal) it with the sausagemeat.
Are you sure you don't mean a deep fried bread crumbed poached egg? They seem to be popping up on menus everywhere

No - this is definitely a scotch egg. The crumbed poached egg is clearly delivered by a chef who has failed to master wrapping a delicate, lightly-boiled/poached egg in something as brutal and stiff as sausagemeat.

Perhaps thin sliced ham as the layer between the egg and the baked beans ( I don't think crispy bacon would work) but the ham would give an idea of bacon.
I think we could have the beginnings of a very successful breakfast dish smile

I had little expectation of crispy bacon 'working' in a sea of baked beans and runny egg yolk wink

Hesten Blumenthall could no doubt rustle one up with a syringe and other paraphernalia, it sounds like it could have some potential, I think it would need to be served warm to work.
It would take the Ginger tt a week or so but yes im sure he could do it
He already does - a staple of the Hinds Head (and elsewhere). Haven't got a clue how they do it but they are top notch!

Have you tried the scotch eggs with the black pudding in the sausage meat in from that Worral Thomson Deli down by the Viceroy?

They're glorious.

Yes I have and yes they are. In fact so dangerous are they that they're currently banned from the Ettore household.

The Sausage Rolls are a class act as well!

Just had one in the Royal Exchange Cafe.

Runny yolk
Chips
Some leaves - largely ignored.
Bread and Butter
Tartare Sauce

Bloody lovely.
