Sulphite allergy..?

I've started sticking to 'purer' beers now if I'm out for a sesh. Becks and other German beers to the old Rhineheitsgetbot (sp?) so are less likely to contain all the crap other brewers put into their produce.
I used to work in brewing and I know that Budweiser do not put any additives/preservatives in their beer at all and the O/P states he has had problems with Bud. It does say in the brewing process can cause these sulphites to build up but again the Bud process is very similar to the German/Czech largering process.

May just be a case of different people react differently to different beers, I know Stella effects my balance after 6 or 7 pints!

I get a fantastic (facial and neck) rash if I drink anything alcoholic and orangey.
I get this too, although i'm a Stella drinker. Usually if i've had more than a couple of heavy sessions in a row such as a stag weekend, doesn't really matter what I drink to cause it. I just get slightly warm face which turns into a rash (looks like sunburn)which gets worse unless I stop.

In our group of friends its regarded as a 'having a Tomato Head'

Have a read through this:

http://www.foodreactions.org/intolerance/alcohol/i...

I've had exactly the same experiences, I can drink 'normal' cider like Strongbow but if I were to drink two or three Magners or Bulmers I would come out in a rash and start to feel short of breath. I tend not to touch anything now that has a large amount of sulphites in it and it seems to be working. Even something like Crabbies brings me out in a rash even if I only drink one or two bottles.

Thanks for the links.

Interesting. I figured it was something in the alcohol. I'll definitely be more careful about what to buy etc. I tend to stick to more premium largers, and don't have a problem. Its when I get some for home consumption, I tend to just get what's on offer.

Odd.

For some reason I would place all of those drinks in the same "manufactured rubbish cider" category. Certainly wouldn't class Strongbow as "normal".

You ever tried a pure-brewed cider or a scrumpy?

I'm fine with other ciders including the proper stuff (Black Rat and Thatchers Gold being particular favs) it just seems to be Magners that brings on the rash. Not that it bothers me as I think Magners is over-hyped crap!
