So, so true.

He occasionally does video reports on the Shropshire Star website. Think Chris Evans with an Elmer Fudd accent, and you're there.

I think pubs are closing for the same reason most petrol stations have closed. The duty on the product is so high (all for the good of our health of course - the money is unimportant to the Exchequer grumpy) that the business can't make a reasonable profit without support from other sales.
Really?

Pubs cant live off of wet sales alone these days unless they are next to a football ground, other big enertainment venue or have a huge amount of regulars . Most pubs need the sales from food/functions or rooms to survive these days.

Of course, if you are/were a rabid anti-smoker, you can GFY.
And they can also give themselves a hearty pat on the back for the huge increase in number of these sort of people visiting pubs these days:

Glad to see the bar manager had his say on this review, it makes the bar come across very well from my point of view.
Love the manager's reply!

As a Shropshire (Telford) local myself you should really pop along to the cock hotel in Wellington or crown in oakengates for your 'non food, tiled floor, dog welcome, friendly good craic' pub!

Only places I drink nowadays for the same reason. If I see any of your motors in the car parks I'll pop in and say hi wink

Indeed. I thought it a rather strange analogy to compare to fuel duty, and cite that as a key reason for closing...

Also, are petrol stations really closing? I don't see demand falling for fuel...
