Talking of costs.
Have they tinned tomatoes always cost around the 90p/£1 mark or have I just been ignorant?
I watched a 4 pack pass through the checkout and come up £3.96. I'd have got more for my money in the alcohol aisle.
Two or three years ago, tins of tomatoes were around 35p-50p a tin — but then there was some sort of crop failure & prices of tinned tomatoes, tomato puree etc. rocketed. Call me cynical but I have noticed that the tins which cost almost £4 per 4 are quite often on 'special offer half price'.........Have they tinned tomatoes always cost around the 90p/£1 mark or have I just been ignorant?

Melvin - cartons are the way forward. They are square and stack much better in the cupboards.
Do they last longer than the tinned variety as about twice a year I have to throw away half a dozen, what looks like tinned pea-green cheesecake affairs?79p for cartons, 55p each for tins (bought as a 4 pack) in Waitrose. Doubtless cheaper elsewhere.
