So whats the deal with the fries? Have they reduced the cooking time for some reason?
No change of times or temperatures. Occasionally when the brand of potato changes there is a change in colour (lighter). Pentland Dell and Russett Burbank potatoes are the chosen ones.
Fries should only hold for 5 minutes before being binned. They also dont travel well as they sweat in the bags due to the heat which is why they sink in the boxes leaving a half full packet. It's an issue that McD's have been looking at a way to improve for a long time and especially now since UberEats handles McDelivery.

When can we expect to be able to add as well as remove items when customising on the new order screens?

Would be ace.

I make my own from time to time and whilst I agree potato makes a big difference there is no way they are cooking the same. No way. The colour is wrong, the texture is wrong. They are either cooking for less time or they have the temp turned well down. I don't know if its just something local to my region but even the NW HQ mcds are doing this. I would say they were one of the last to change over onto what ever new method they are using.

The fries are awful from McDonalds, BK and KFC. If they are not cold because they have been hanging around they are pale, limp and undercooked rather than light and crisp. KFC are the worse offenders.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's health related, the fries are still produced by McCain, perhaps we've changed our oil? Salt has certainly been reduced. We have to be seen to be responsible in reducing fat and giving healthier choices. Something that can't be said for our competitors. If the fries are no good, send them back and we'll give you fresh ones.

Just noticed that KevF has already responded and knows more than me on this subject.

And yes Hamburger University is in East Finchley, two floors below my desk.

I don't know of any plans to do this. Australia allowed full customisation and the ability to create your own burger but pretty sure they've ditched this in favour of the original core menu again.

I have never seen anyone eat one of those. I bet they have to drag it up from the bottom of the freezer when requested and then do a hunt for the sauce

Five guys fries travel well. Also Suvlaki's (small Greek place in Soho).

I guess that double cooked fries are inherently crunchier and more nicely coloured, therefore they won't go limp or bland as quickly when being transported.

But double cooked fries are not practically for a high T/O place like McD, I guess

I reckon I could qualify for an honorary degree from this ‘Hamburger University’. hehe

I too would also like to see the McRib make a comeback; it was extremely tasty! The McChicken Premiere seemed popular too.

The McRib often comes up on various discussions, it made a reappearance a year or two ago as a temporary item. I seem to remember it wasn't as good as the original for some reason.

Awful, all bread and melted cheese and virtually no bacon.

Breakfast for me is either a breakfast wrap or a bacon roll with the hash brown put on the roll before eating like a rabid dog.

Can't eat BMs any more due to incredibly bad guts after eating one a year or so ago (might not have been the BM but my body now rejects them), still get to Macs occasionally, last foray was after a meeting in Redditch, the one on the outer ring road North was absolutely rammed at Wednesday lunch, managed to score two parking spaces (me and the account manager that was buying). He used the new ordering system to order (after me taking the pi55 that he was too old for new tech) and I have to say it was one of the better Mac meals I've had in a while, either our local is 5hit (Nottingham Radcliffe Rd - franchise) or I hit lucky. Quarter pounder was good and the fries were the best I've had in a fast food joint.

Not a fan of five guys at all, rather go to the pub and order a beer and a burger deal.
