Has anyone stayed in a 'Spoons hotel?
If so, what are they like?
I had to stay in one in Andover and, as much as I like drinking in Spoons I was dreading it but needs must... Turns out it was actually really nice, decent fixtures and fittings and they gave us a family room that had a seperate area with a sofa and telly, so I watched Match of the Day whilst my missus had a relaxing bath. And then down for breakfast and a pint in the morning If so, what are they like?

Brewdog make Wetherspoons look like a Michelin restaurant.
Prefer the food at BrewdogBrewdog Waterloo is decent if you're in a large group as they have activities like table tennis and a slide down to the bar, clientele is millennial hipster and suits having a pint after work.
Meant to be the largest pub in Europe so does lack atmosphere if visited on a day other than Thurs-Saturday.

Stayed in one in Malvern when I was doing a course down there. Pleasantly surprised. Although I went back one day and the furniture was upended on the bed, cleaner obviously forgot to put it back after vacuuming! If so, what are they like?
Similar level to TravelHovel, PremierInn sort of thing. Advantage of being able to have a cold one in quite a reasonable venue during a hot spell. Breakfast acceptable. It's no 5* place but then neither are the prices. I'd use one again quite happily.
Shrewsbury many years ago, we had a family room for 30 a night and breakfast thrown in , 3 Pipefitters working in town , we had it for 8 months albeit not most weekends, mind you although it was a good deal we struck the money we put behind the bar after work on food and drink prob made up for it , I doubt they sold it on weekends prob fumigated it , we was constantly asked about our house keeping, dirty pants , socks etc , kebab wrapper’s, Oh the good old days , circa 20 odd yrs ago this was

Yes, several times. If so, what are they like?
Perfectly adequate, but not normally right up to the minute decor.
You are, of course on site for a spoons breakfast in the morning. As I recall, everything is pay as you go, so there is no bill to settle when you leave.
Watched the C5 Weatherspoons v Toby carvery nonsense on TV. Compared breakfast, lunch and dinner and they consistently failed to highlight the value of the included drink.
So the dinner.... "we selected meals of the same value, the Toby carvery and the Weatherspoons cod, chips and peas, both around £10.50, although the Weatherspoons meal does come with a drink."
Errrr, yeah, it does. A 660ml bottle of Peroni or Asahi which is £5.75 in Toby. So you're actually comparing a £16.25 Toby meal with a £10.50 Weatherspoons meal.
And the cod and chips still won.

I new food hall has opened in my city centre, one of those places with multiple floors of different food stalls, bars and communal seating.
Went there today and my lad had burger & fries for £14 which was a small burger and he said tasted average and for the money would have preferred 2 x Big Macs.
I went for a slice of Detroit pepporoni pizza £8, assuming at that price it might be something quite special. What I got served was the tiniest slice of pizza I've seen, and it tasted exactly the same as a Greggs pizza slice which can be had for about £2
For scale this is a tall pint glass and the silver dish is the size of a small ashtray..
Thankfully there's a Spoons around the corner so off we went and we both had a burger & pint meal deal. Thank the Lord for Wetherspoons.

There was your clue, right there. Your disappointment was self-inflicted. The only redeeming factor being that 'spoons seemed good afterwards. The Gauge said:

Reviews are very mixed, but I’ll be giving it a miss. Kommune has also gone downhill.
The Korean and Taiwanese places at New Era Square are both nicer.

Yes, Cambridge Collective. Some of the other food stalls might be ok, but Michie's pizza stall is definitely worth avoidingReviews are very mixed, but I’ll be giving it a miss. Kommune has also gone downhill.
