Tried the Laphroaig Lore a couple of times since buying it last week - think I've concluded that I'm not convinced. Strangely, the first taste I had of it really impressed me - seemed like a nice complex flavour and my first reaction was : I'll be buying this again.
However - when I poured myself a proper glass later, I didn't really like it much. Decided it was a one off, and tried it a different night - but still wasn't a big fan.
Considering I can have two bottles of Quarter cask - which I do like - for the price of a single bottle of Lore, I know what I'll be choosing next time.

Actually - since I'm posting anyway - I do need to increase my whisky collection before the end of this week, so I'd welcome suggestions. Stuff I already have - or already know I'll be buying :
Lagavulin 16
Bowmore (probably the 12 year old)
Laphroaig Quarter
Dalmore - absolutely love the King Alexander III but it's getting a tad expensive, so undecided on this
Highland Park Dragon Legend (like this a lot)

Any suggestions for others? I have tried quite a few over the last few years, but welcome recommendations - prefer they are in the under £50 range unless it's something comparable with the KA III.

A few (14) suggestions off the top of my head....

Deanston 12
Deanston 18
Aultmore 12
Balblair 1999 vintage
Balvenie Peat Week
Blair Athol 12
Glen Scotia 16
Glendronach 15
Glengoyne 18
Hibiki Jampanese Harmony (Blend)
Ledaig 10
Oban 14
Springbank 10
Tamdhu Batch Strength

All hit the mark for me, and I would buy again.

I've always thought Glenfarclas massively undervalue their whisky. Whilst every other distillery seems to have steadily increased their prices inline with demand over the past decade or so, Glenfarclas don't seem to have followed the trend.

The Family Casks have been going up more recently, but for the most part are still good value against the equivalent from most distilleries. They have the benefit of producing lots in the downturns, which pays off now. A lot of other distilleries didn't and so are limited in stock. Or are creating a limit most likely - take Macallan or Glenfiddich single casks. Charge loads for being single casks as not many official single casks released, despite being huge producers.

Glenfarclas have kept their cool on prices. They have increased their 40 year old - apart from that, they’ve kept it well below average.

Look at my good friends Macallan, you’re nearly £1,800 quid for a 25 year old !

Damn, I missed it. frown

I did buy myself 6 bottles of whisky at Tesco on the way to work this morning though. Got some odd looks from the checkout girl - 6.30am, and all I was buying was £190 of whisky......

What did you get? I did similar last year when they were clearing out Ardbeg 10 for £23 a bottle. Bought all 6 at 10.30am and got a couple of funny looks. Well worth it though, still got 4 sitting in the cupboard!

Some I've had before and know I like.

Tamnavulin is a new one for me, and thought I'd give it a try. Yamazaki I've had before, although not sure it was that particular one (this one was £55 and I think the one I tried before was double that). The lone bottle without a box (hard to see the name, and it's too cold for me to go back outside to check!) was a gamble - but the fact that it says "Just enough peat to start a fire" sold it to me!

Tamnavulin is very pleasant for what it is, better than Aberlour 10 I think. Haven't seen the boxless bottle before, must be a new addition to the Tesco range. Do let us know what it is like, that does sound appealing!

I had an extra Chichibu so managed to sort out a swap for this:

https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/10756/g...

Was top whisky in 2009 at the Malt Maniacs awards. Sounds like a cracking old sherry dram.
